Guys I have had the opportunity to talk to a guy from TN that told me he has about 13 inner city kids that will be racing this year. He told me that some of the kids just are dropped at the door and the parents do not even come in or know anything about Pinewood. I know you guys are like me and have a few cars that did not make the grade, so if anyone is willing to donate these cars it would be helpful. They need not to setup, but would need to have wheels and axles. The wheels and axles need not even be prepped. Lets see if we can make this happen for this guy.
PM me for info

What are the time frames?
When is their race?
What do they have the ability to start with:
1. Plain kit (all the parts that are in the box, needs everything done) 2. Rough cut body(needs weights and sanding/painting/decals/etc) 3. finished body(WEIGHTED and single color painted/stained)

Guys, The time frame is very short. Their check in is a week from Monday. So if anyone is wanting to help then cars will have to be sent out tomorrow or Tuesday.
He is looking for completed cars. The cars do not have to have wheels on them as the kids can pick their car out and put wheels on them. They do need to be weighted, shaped, and painted. These do not need to be great cars, just cars that the kids can race and enjoy themselves. I was told that these boys do not have anyway of building these cars as the parents do not help these yound boys.
I wish I would have known sooner and could have built a few more myself. I have about 4 cars that I will be sending. If I had known sooner I would have built 13 myself to send, but I will not have the time to do that now. That is why I am posting this. I am the type of guy that offered my car to a child last year after he showed up the day of the derby without a car and the parent thought they were there to build the car. The officals would not allow this as they know the child would have an unfair advantage, so the child had to race a block with no weight and no prep.
I hope a few of you guys will help me out with this.
Steve
If anyone is interested I will PM you with his name and address. The cars can and will need to be shipped directly to him to make it in time.

I hate to ask because time is so short, but what rules are they using??? Are extended wheelbases OK? Are they limited to BSA wheels and axles, or can we use Pinecar wheels or one piece axles? Please PM me with the name and address. One way or another, I will make one and get it to him by Monday.

I've got several cars sitting under my work bench that Scouts have left the past couple of years. Send me the address and I'll overnight them.

Ya'll are so great for helping these boys out! You may never know what it means to them, but I would bet that they will be so proud and happy to race the cars that ya'll are sending! This is just awesome what you all are doing. I am so happy that these young boys will have the opportunity to compete!
Last year, there was a sweet boy at our PWD. His mom is the single mother of four kids. She is on public assistance and has trouble making ends meet. But, I admire her for doing so much for her kids, because she has them in a lot of activities. Anyway this young man's car was bad last year. It did not win a single race and he was quite upset. I felt so bad, because his mom was sitting next to me in the stands and the boy came up and sat with us after he lost his last race. I was squirming a little as Ethan won race after race. Finally, I could not just sit there with this sad, sweet little boy. I promised him that next time I would help him with his car. So, this year, I gave him a car that was cut out and weighted. He has been working on it, and has done and AWESOME job of sanding it! Last week end I helped with the wheels and axles. Next week end we are going to work on the paint. I am going to get him some blue paint as that is the color that he wants for his car. This little boy is so thankful and excited about his car! It really warms my heart!!! I think that I have enjoyed helping him as much as I have enjoyed working with my own child. While I will be loudly cheering for my own son during the derby I will secretly be rooting for this little boy and his blue car! LOL! It really makes a person feel good to share with these kids. I wish that ya'll could see the faces of the boys that you are helping! It would truly make you feel 10 feet tall! I commend you all on your kindness and swift action!

Steve,
I put 2 cars in the mail first thing this morning. I added a tube of Hobe-E-Lube also. You can't have a pinewood derby race without the fun mess of graphite ;D !!
