do you plan on racing in during the 2009 season ? I have to admit that I'm hyped about the new Pure Stock Class and am really looking forward to racing in it. I also plan on racing in Limited, Stock and Modified. The poll is just for fun...

Hey, how about "None of the Above"? It would be nice to have time to get a car or two together to race but I'm most likely just gonig to be "the track guy" unless something unexpected happens. Anyway, how do we increase the number of builders racing in the leagues? Is there something we could or should be doing now at the beginning of the pinewood season(for most people) in order to enthuse them to join the leagues?

With Scout pinewood derby season approaching. An idea I've used in the past is to make up fliers and hand them out at Pack, District and Council races. I've even given fliers to other guys I know from different packs to hand out at their races. Usually the racers at District and Council are a little more hardcore and seem more open to the idea of league racing. A simple flier with the leagues Internet address, info about the league and schedule works great !!

Anyway, how do we increase the number of builders racing in the leagues? Is there something we could or should be doing now at the beginning of the pinewood season(for most people) in order to enthuse them to join the leagues? Being one of the relative new-comers to the league, I'd like to throw out a couple of comments or suggestions. First, I want it clearly understood that this league is absolutely awesome. The racers are some of the best in the world, and everyone I have had any interaction with has been free and open with any and all information. The time and effort the Warren and others put in is awesome! My wife has taken to calling this board and the racing "my other wife", (she also complains that I spend more money on my second wife than my first, but that's a different post! ;D) I was a lurker on this board for about 4-6 months before I joined and sent in a car. One of the problems was in figuring out HOW to join, what you needed to do, how to do it, when the races were, how you got to see the races, what to expect, what kind of track was used, what length, how races are scored, etc. etc. (It really confused me when the entrance form said 54 feet of fun, I still don't know where THAT comes from ) I just looked today and found threads on a couple of different sections of the board talking about where to send cars to! Add that to the registration forms saying 2007, and not having the same classes as is listed in the rules section, and I was really confused. We don't even have it listed anywhere that the race time starts at 1:00 (ish), central. Look through the board as if you didn't know anything about how this league, or ANY proxy league, works, and see if you can figure it out just from the info presented here. I think that we're all in so deep we forget about the new entrants who've never done anything like this and how confusing it can seem at the start! What I think we need is an intro or main section that covers all of that info up front so that those who may be watching, or kind of interested get the info that they need and feel like we really are open to new people. Until I took the plunge and jumped in, I was kind of worried that the league was kind of a "good ol boy" group that wouldn't be very welcoming to newcomers. The truth is the absolute opposite of that and I'd love to see us continue to grow and bring in even more racers! Steve 3cubdad

I can answer the "64 Feet of Fun!" question. That is the slogan I use for the races I help out with . . . my 2 Challenger 6 lane tracks are both 64 feet PLUS stop section. . . the new 6 lane BestTrack is at 53' currently. . . need 14 more feet to be the "64 Feet of Fun!" equivalent. now we need to address the other issues. . . . one by one and it will be done! Please help us out by keeping "the new builder" perspective.
