With all the recent postings and photographs of everyone's skillfully painted new car builds for the Bluegrass race making me feel rather inadequate, and then reading DerbyDoc's postings early this morning on airbrush techniques, I decided in the wee hours of the morning to confront and attack my inadequacies head-on, figuring "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" and to that end... I decided to stay home from work today and purchased an airbrush. I invested in only the finest available equipment and materials (airbrushes, paint-booth, compressor, tank, automotive quality lacquers/clears, etc.)... spent most of the morning studying the painting techniques of the great masters (custom motorcycle painters and builders such as DerbyDoc, Sappingtonr, BeakerBoys, Da Pine, Lucky 13, Knotthead) and honing my skills/techniques... After several hours of research and practice, I began painting one of my new cars for the August race. Let me tell you, I surprised myself... I am floored... the results are nothing short of SPECTACULAR!!! I have never been one to brag, but let me tell you, this thing is pure ARTISTRYand truly a thing of beauty! I am confident that you all will be very impressed... So now with my Michaelangelo-like creation nearly finished, I will post pictures tonight of my Masterpiece once it is dry enough to handle. I have been struggling to come up with a name for the car, something befitting such an incredible, splendid rendering... a car that will rub shoulders with the Pinewood Derby Elite/Royalty... and with that in mind I have dubbed this new car " The Emperor..." I'll post pics later tonight for everyone to see! Steve B.

Steve, First of all, that message is an absolute classic. It is EXACTLY the type of thing that I would do (and have done ). Secondly, to put my name up there in the company of some of the finest contemporaries of our time like: Beaker Boys, Derbydoc, Da Pine, Lucky, & Knotthead - absolutely makes my day!! Can't wait to see what you have done. One of the best posts I've seen in a long time. Double Exalt from me!!!

Please accept my apologies for not getting back to this post sooner (I had promised to post pictures last night of the incredible paint job on our most recent car but I was leery of handling it prematurely for fear of fingerprints/smudges). The paint used to complete this work of art is simply amazing stuff... it's of the "color shifting" variety but the number of shades and hues one can see vary literally infinitely depending upon the angle from which you gaze upon this spectacular vehicle. Now that the paint is dry enough to handle I have photographed this illustrious masterpiece and am prepared to share it with each of you. I am quite confident that you will be bedazzled by its brilliance, and wowed by its wonderfulness! Please refrain from any feelings of inadequacy, as I realize my newfound herculean painting talents may be rather intimidating to those not well grounded in their painting prowess and/or masculinity.. So without further ado... I would like to introduce... "The Emperor..."i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/slowsteve/1.jpgPlease feel free to share with me your thoughts on this colorful, classic, this titillating treasure, this tour de force! Sincerely yours... Slow Steve

P.S.: I should point out that "The Emperor..." is actually the abbreviated moniker for this car. It's full name is actually "The Emperor's New Clothes"... Quite the dandy paint job if I do say so myself!!! ;D Steve B.

Steve,
The attention to detail is amazing! It reminds me of those sidewalk chalk drawings you see that appear 3-dimensional!
You'll have to post details of your methods.

Wow The way you make it look like you can see right through the car is simply amazing. How did you do that?
