Derby Evolutions axles are not the same other axles on the market. Several other vendors sell stainless axles, there are differences in their shape, finish, and the stainless used. We have our axles make to our specifications and we feel they are the best axles in the industry.

And I have to agree with Hurricrane.
Hey Evo ... any particular reason why the new Velocity axles reduce to .090 instead of .091 like the other axles?

Steve should be the one to respond but I will hazard a guess as why the 93V's are .090 instead of .091 where they insert into the wood. I think it's for the same reason the 92X's are now smaller ~ no need to ream the holes. A #43 drill bit makes a .089 hole, and with a .090 axle, it makes for a perfect fit.

The 92X's are .090 at the body? Is that new? The web site still says they are .091.
Your guess at the reason is probably correct. The 94X's were introduced with .090 size at the body and when I asked John why he gave pretty much the exact same rationale.

Is it a perfect fit or a real tight squeeze?

You know I haven't actually purchased any 92X's since the change (if there was a change). Last year he mentioned that he was going to start making them smaller at the bottom, and I just assumed by now he would be selling them. If his website still says .091 then they're probably still the old one's.

Is it a perfect fit or a real tight squeeze? Good point. I'd say a very slight squeeze would be a more accurate statement.

Guys I am sorry that I have been away from the forums for a while. This has been our best year ever and while I enjoy talking on the forums, during the season I find it hard to spend as much time as I would like on the various forums discussing pinewood derby racing.
The Velocity axles are .090 where the axle enters the body. We made this change so that axle holes would not need reamed after being drilled. We also changed the groove on this axle. We spent hundreds of hours testing various grooves and where the wheel rides on the axle. We found that making small changing to these things allow for a large increase in speed. While we already had the best finish on our axles, we improved upon this also.
We will be closing out some of our axles starting with the 94SRG. They are on sale right now and will continue to be till we are sold out. I believe there are only 5 sets left. We will then be closing out our 91SRG axles. We may continue to offer the 93SRG as many people still like this axle style.
