I don't see them on the NorthernStar Council site yet. People are already building but may not see the new rules. I'd hate to see someone have a problem at the pack level because they aren't aware of the rule changes.

I have been trying to get them posted. According to the council contact list, the web position is vacant....

Are wheel weights legal with the new rules? Rule 2.9 says the entire inside and outside of the wheel must be visible when mounted to the body. Even if you modify the weight for inspection off wheel by cutting it. My reading of this rule would say they still aren't legal but I could be wrong. Thanks TNT

I'm not the final authority on this, but here's how I interpret the rule.
First, here's the rule text ...
2.9 The complete inside and outside lettering of the wheel must be visible when the wheel is attached to the body.
I've always assumed that the actual intent behind this rule is to ensure that the inspector can see inside the wheel to detect lightened wheels without having to take the wheel off.
This rule clearly prohibits the full size wheel weights such as the original Puma weights (and other full sized weights) because they completely block the ability to see inside the wheel.
On the other hand, wheel weights such as the Cub Scout Puma weights are cut short to allow visibility into the wheel. So, by my interpretation, wheel weight of this type are allowed.

That's what I would think to because if you have a thicker body car you can't see the top of wheel anyway. But assuming things gets me in trouble so I thought I would ask

I haven't seen the weights that are "cut short" to allow visibility into the wheel. What visibility is there? Is the front 1/4 (6o'clock to 9o'clock) cut off? If there is a 90 degree arc that is visible from the hub to the tread I would say that would qualify as being visible.

It looks like they would work IF the car body is thin enough to allow inspection of the inside of the wheel from the top.

Good point. I sometimes forget that not everybody makes super thin cars.
I'd be interested to hear from those doing check in if the rule's stance on wheel weights are generally a point of confusion - and are people getting disqualified for using them. We may need to add an info box to the rules next year to explain how the rules apply to wheel weights.

We will also need to add an explanation of the use of clear/transparent washers to reduce air drag.
Maybe we could get a photo of an orange wheel using it?
