I got a box of Pinewood Derby Parts in the mail today, so tonight I'll be prepping a set of axles and wheels for the October Race. I'm a little scared and excited all at the same time. Hopefully I can get down to the 2.92's? ? I don't have any Jig A Loo, so what other product can I use for the axles before the oil??

Is there an Ollies store near you. They carry Jig-A-Loo for $2.99 a can.

Thanks guys. The Ollie's and Lowe's are about the same distance.
I think I've pretty much filled in the blanks with most of the prep process from reading on this site (and a few e-mails) except the "Jig A Loo or Dupont step". I still haven't quite figured out if there's some special process or just spray the crap on and be done???

Spray it for a couple seconds while turning slowly then give the axle a little shake and stand in a holder to dry but be careful not to touch the axle near the end the wheel rides on. I use a set of needle nose after I spray so I don't remove any jig or get anything on the axles. Just pay attention to the small details and you will do fine.

ZZ's got it - I put my axles in a holder - then place in a plastic bag - until im ready to make sure I dont contaminate them. I put something in the bag (tall shot glass) to hold the bag up so nothing touches the axles. Yea - anal - but like ZZ says its the attention to details that get you to the front

I thought it was the shot glass .... By the way, you probably don't want to try spinning the axle with just your fingers while standing over some gnarly weeds with dew on them outside. I am NOT telling where I got that tip from !!!
