Hope you all had a Great Christmas! Thought I would take this opportunity before the start of the 2011 PWDR season to present some of my show cars that I have built in the past. I really enjoy building something other than the wedge type cars that often appear in the racing circuits. Below are three of my cars that were featured in the January 2011 Fox Chapel publication "Pinewood Derby-style RACE CARS" - (2011 Do it yourself guide). In the Winner's Circle section on page 21 is "Music on Wheels". This is a 1/20 scale of my Martin Ukulele. I used Oregon Myrtlewood, and Purpleheart. The frets are brass rods, and the strings are monofilament fishline. Also on page 21 is "Stinger", my first fender car. On page 23 is "Hammerhead". Both raced at WIRL. The last set of pictures are of "Viper". The design is based on the Lola B08/86 Mazda MZR-R coupe, which raced in the American Le Mans Series LMP2 class at Petit Le Mans in October 2009. The body is comprised of three pieces of Basswood. Everything was made from scratch, including the wheels, canopy. I machined the axels from stainless steel socket head cap screws. The wheels are made from Delrin rod stock. They are wide and heavy so Viper is not race fast! Hammerhead placed ahead of Viper in the WIRL show class competition, but I personally favored Viper. VERY nice. I too like seeing something other then the planks we race. I'm hoping to have an HR66 this year. Maybe a Mills Craft.

Thanks guys for your comments on my cars. Here are four more: First is "Rolling Thunder". The turret turns 360 Deg. and the gun moves up and down. Only the two front and two rear wheels are free to spin. Extensive hollowing allowed the car to meet 5.0 Oz. Next is "Goldenrod" - my second fender car. One of my favorites! Below Goldenrod is "Rocket Dart". the nose screws off to meet max length for racing. Last is another concept for my second "Rocket Dart". That is not a purchased dart - I made it. Cyc, Those are very beautiful cars and the attention to detail is fantastic! You can tell what cars are yours because of you implement some design characteristics that say "CycRunner"! Keep up the beautiful work! Murph

It deserves the award, it is a great truck. The little details in it are hard to capture in a photo. I always look forward to checking out what you have send into race.
