Since Warren and Scott both threw some photos out there, I thought it was probably time for us to cough up a couple "sneeky peeks" of our own. After a little "frame and exhaust" work by me and little Bubba (the 3 year old) yesterday, here's our current state: I think we've gotten past most of the structural issues, now we're trying to figure out paint and decals... (We sorely lack in this area). p.s. The fenders in front of the rear axles were cut from the inside of a spray can lid (Shhhh!!! ). After keeping an eye out for a few days, it was the best candidate we could find to approximate the desired thickness and curvature. Regards, Team Bubba

Looks great Team Bubba! I love all the extra details.
As far as decals go, I experimented with some homemade ones for the first time. I looked around for decal paper and ended up finding some clear label paper (full 8.5 X11 inch sheets) at Office Max. At first they looked not real clear. Then I put a clear coat over them and made them stand out more. All the windows are decals and the lights too.
I also experimented with some House of Kolor Rattle cans for painting. Seemed to work alright.

Bob: Not sure on the HP, I'm guessing in the 800-900 range? Don't want to comment too much until we see what kind of times she turns in Scott: Thanks for the decal and painting advice. We might end up using the Big Rig race as an opportunity to take our skills up a notch in both departments. Esp. the decals, I think we're going to want to add a fair amount of detail (Truck name, slogans, logos, etc.) and will need a clear material on which to print. We've mostly utilized plain paper for decals previously...

One thing I found with the paint is that the HOK base paint did not work very well - kinda went on lumpy - used it on the trailer. On the cab I used Dupicolor primer -High Build Formula - and it made a much better base to build off of. The HOK rattle cans I found were at Walmart by the models area. I think Walmart also had the clear label paper for ink jet printers.

Trailer Pic (took some liberty with the logo Warren created ). The white frame (just not painted yet) under the trailer is where most of the added weight will reside (in a pocket between the 2 sets of rear axles). The Cargo Box can be removed and replaced with a Flat Bed, Lumber Carrier, etc. other "loads" that we are building. Look for it at Lima!

One word....COOL !! Way to represent the league. Have you painted the cab yet ? Lucky 13 Not yet. The Cab, flatbed trailer, and the racing version (mostly Balsa ) of the Cargo Box just arrived in St. Louis with a mutual acquaintance who volunteered to help me out and paint part of the fleet. I am pretty much done with the Dump Truck, though!!! I'm trying to decide whether to post pics or save the final "reveal" for Lima... We've added a couple "features" since the previous posting. The paint job on the "Dragon Wagon" is about half done. I'm working 12 hour Storm shifts away from home this weekend, the rest of the paint work will have to wait until next week. Once the painting is done, I need to get busy with the axle prep, wheel prep, etc. (let's see, 3 rigs @ 18 wheels = ). Of course, I guess I could skip the axle and wheel prep for the wheels that won't be touching the track - that would cut the job in half at least LOL! I saved the wheel and axle prep until later in case I ran out of time. Hopefully I won't end up being "All Show and No Go"

Very nicely done
Thanks! Do the front support legs of the frame fold?
No, but if I measured correctly they are spaced widely enough to avoid contacting the center rail and are short enough that when the trailer is attached to the truck they will be off the track.

Glad to help! (and Good Luck... my wife thinks we're all "looney birds". Of course, she did dress up like some Harry Potter character and take the kids to a "Book Release Party", but that's not getting carried away at all LOL).
