Let me clear up a few things for the 2012 pure stock class. The rules for the 2012 Limited class have not been posted yet.
4) Axles A. Minimum axle diameter is .084 B. Nail type axles are the only axles allowed (BSA, DerbyWorx, Derby Evolution, ect.) C. Grooves and modification of the axles is allowed as long as the journal portion of the axles (the part the wheel rides on) is no less then .084 diameter. Axles must have a nail style head, headless axles are not allowed.
A nail style axle must be used. You do not have to purchase a pre-made axle from any vendor, but the axle must have a metal head on it. You can make you own axles for this class, they just must meet the rules.
B. The car body may be enhanced by the addition of other stable materials such as plastic or metal. Any additions must be firmly attached and meet car size requirements.
6. Bearings, bushing, inserts, or washers
The rules state that you can add other stable materials to the body of the car. This would mean that Spacewalker's areo material or other similiar material would be allowed. As an example how can we allow someone to glue a lego man to the top of the car, but not allow someone to add plastic to the side of the car by this rule.
The rules state that no washers will be allowed!

Is that not the same thing as Spacewalker's "aero plastic"? It's just I choose to make the shape round, he chooses to make it a rectangular shape? What is the diff? Confused!! [/b][/i][/color]

The material can be almost anything, it is not limited to various types of plastic. By attaching it to the body it is not a washer. A washer is something that is placed in between two items to reduce friction and is independent of the two other items. Since it is attached to the body it is not considered a washer.

Hi Evo, Here is a picture of a Teflon Washer embedded into the body. It will not move. It is a part of the body. Based on your definition, this design is legal for Pure Stock. Correct? Thanks! Murph

That is correct! It is not considered a washer by any definition that I have located if it is attached to the body.

When we made these rules we discussed what is and is not legal. A washer would be something placed between the wheel and the body that is independent of either the wheel or the body.
If someone really wanted to debate a point they could debate that various types of paints could be considered plastic and they would be illegal if we did not allow plastic to be added to the side of the body.
I do not wish to debate every type of plastics or materials and what various dictionaries define as a washer. The rule that is stated is clear, you can add materials to the body as long as they are firmly attached. It does not state where the materials can be added, just that it can be added.

That's exactly it Steve. There are some high solid paints that can be polished to submicron and be just as good as the aero plastic. In fact - the finish on my new car builds is pretty much like that. It takes a bit more work then just adding a teflon washer as does integrating the aero plastic into the body. I think you have it right
