What are your weekend plans? I'm hoping to get an area setup IN the house to actually be able to work on PWD cars. . . if not that at least in the garage. BIG goal would be to get the plating on the last 3 sections of the new track.

Sounds like fun Warren. I'm lucky enough to have father-in-law who has a wood shop that I build my pinewood derby cars in. it would be nice to have my own area to work on them though. Usually the coffee table or kitchen table become my finishing areas !! I'll be spending this weekend doing some community service with my Cub Scout den. If time permits, I will also be setting my test track up and doing some testing/tuning.

Hey Warren, Bob, Everyone,
Since you asked -- busy weekend at the team ProQuest household. Max (12) has his first theater competition tomorrow. He'll do improv, mime, lip sink and story telling. That activity will last from morning until evening. Should be fun.
Leah (15) is totally into Anime and Manga - the Japanese versions of American cartoons and comic books. There are two festivals in town that relate -- the Asian Festival and a big Anime Festival -- she wants to attend both. Also, in town is my favorite festival -- the Renaissance Festival. I'm told that it is actually the biggest and most attended such festival in the country. Every year the whole family goes at least once in costume. I'm a peasant -- go figure. My wife goes as a winch with one of those tight corsets -- I look forward to that all year long (oh, I hope that's not too racy). We can't possibly attend all three festivals, but we may try.
Last, but not least, I have three cars running at WIRL tomorrow. I don't have to tell you that I look forward to Pinewood derby racing, anywhere, anytime. While my cars will run (assuming they get there in time and in one piece -- Yes, Warren, I sent them by overnight delivery this morning) I may not be able to watch while it is happening. As much as I love racing, family comes ahead of Pinewood derby.
The weather here is beautiful for the first time in months and it looks like it is going to hold through the weekend. So, whatever we do it'll be awesome.
Warren, good luck with getting your work area set up.
Lucky, have fun with your cubs and testing.
Have fun this weekend everyone. Later.

...I'm a peasant -- go figure. My wife goes as a winch with one of those tight corsets... Steve: Sorry for the pedantry, but your misspelling reminds me of a joke. I think the word you're looking for is w ench, not w inch. W ench: Peasant girl (better fits your renaissance theme and lowly status this weekend) W inch: Mechanical device used to wind up a rope Think of it this way: If you've stuck you're car in the ditch and you're best friend comes along with a couple of w inches in his pickup, you're glad to see him and ask him to help you pull your car out of the ditch. On the other hand, if you've stuck you're car in the ditch and you're best friend comes along with a couple of w enches in his pickup, you abandon your car for the evening and head out with your friend and his associates for a night on the town. ;D What a difference a letter can make... As for us, we've got Outdoor Scout training this weekend - hope the weather is good as my sinuses are already killing me. Regards, Bubba

Bubba,
I stand corrected. I much prefer my wife as a "wench" as opposed to a "winch." However, if I've stuck my car in the ditch I think I'd much prefer my friend to arrive with "winches."
Lucky,
Will do. I'll post a pic or two when we go to the festival.
Later dudes.

Well, I've been cleaning and organizing all weekend. . . just haven't gotten any space for my PWD work yet. Got lots of things done on the "Honey-Do" list though! Maybe if I promise to help her out with her cars she'll give me some help getting a PWD work area set-up. . . .

docb,
First, nothing wrong with the old Stocker -- Humerus. Is the new one actually faster. If so, that is remarkable.
Second, how in the heck did you brake your drill press? I assume you are talking about your brand new high precision German made Proxxon drill press. You weren't trying to use it as a mill were you? Regardless how you did it, that bites.
Third, congrats on the Pat's win over Dolphins.
Fourth, can I come? I love Disney World!!! Have you been there with the kids before? You'll have a blast.
Warren, sounds like you've made some real headway. You'll have your work area carved out in no time. Hang in there, the Mrs. will understand.
Lucky, Team ProQuest didn't make it to the Renaissance Festival this weekend -- so no pics yet -- sorry. Not to worry, the festival will be in town for another month.
Take care all.

Well, the weekend wasn't to bad. It was hard to tell if my scouts painted the wood or themselves more ;D, but, in the end they did a great job and hopefully learned something along the way !! My test and tune started good, but went south fast. I actually got two of the fastest heats ever from "primevil'. Then I decided to do a little more tweaking (of couse) and the bottom feel out. I put it back to the original settings, it was better, but not as good as it was. I may mess with it again tomorrow. Have fun at Disney Land DocB !! Hopefully the drill press is still under warranty !! Warren we expect some pictures when your workshop is done !! Steve, we'll just have to wait until next weekend for those pictures !! Lucky 13

ProQuest/Steve No, Humerus is still running good, just experimenting with some new things...The car is not done it only weighs 4.5 oz right now but I wanted to see how it ran so far. My very first run ran competatively with Humerus and it was with old wheels with old lube that's why I said it looks promising. Who knows once I add .5 more oz and re-do the axles and wheels, maybe I will mess it up and it will be slower My Drill press... This is a little embarassing so don't tell anyone I turned it on with the pin in it and heard a noise that didn't sound very good. Now when the drill spins I can just stop it with my fingers. I think something broke inside but I haven't looked yet. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I am all ears... There is no better time to be a sports fan in Boston...Pats are undefeated, Sox are going to the World Series, Boston College is ranked #2 and the Celtics look promising. Been to Disney before but never with the kids, should be fun. Hopefully I will have enough time when I get back to get my cars in the mail for the next race. See you all at the Nov race!

Now when the drill spins I can just stop it with my fingers. I think something broke inside but I haven't looked yet. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I am all ears... docb: I can't begin to tell you how many times I have done that exact same thing with my Proxxon Drill Press. It is a design defect in the chuck key. Most full size drill presses have a spring devise in the key that won't allow you to leave it in. When you let go with your hand it falls out. That is my one complaint with the Proxxon. Luckily I've not had any damage -- yet -- but I have spent a heck of a lot of time trying to find the pin after it few across the garage a few times. As new as yours is, I'll bet Proxxon will take care of it for you at no cost -- maybe even pay shipping both ways. Given um a call. Sorry, no words of wisdom, just consolation knowing that you aren't the only one (by any stretch) who has made that mistake. ProQuest/Steve H.
