been thinking about building a car !

not sure what to build or where it should be sent ?

I'm confused. Look at the scrolling message at the top in News. Proxy racing is alive and well and schedule is posted. May and June are as scheduled. July is BGN. After that TBA.

Here is an explanation from Mr. Slick. The other 2 leagues are PWDRacing Local Affiliate leagues. They are local leagues created and run by members of this site and receive help and guidance from this site. If you are in the area of either of the 2 current local leagues you are welcome to come and race live. Hope this helps.

Well, we have had time for some discussions and here is the update so far:

First the Proxy stuff:

We will have races in MAY and JUNE as scheduled.

After the July BGN, we will have races early in September and November and a year end race in mid December. In 2010 we are looking at February, April, June, August, October and December.

There will not be a race on July 5th, 2009 -- I would have to have everything done in one day. I get home from summer camp on July 4th and leave for Philmont(hiking in the mountains of Northern New Mexico) on the 6th. A proxy race just isn't going to happen. I get back on the 21st/22nd and we leave shortly after that for the drive to BGN. Sure hope my desk is still at work when I come back!

We are pushing to find a permanent home for the track year round. With the economy, we are hoping to get some cheap space but that will require some "dedication" from others for me to sign a lease.


Second the non-Proxy stuff:
Slow Steve and I are now the co-chairs for the Northern Star Council's Pinewood Derby! We are going to have some real fun now.

Note that we are one of the largest councils in the country and Slow Steve and I hope to use that to help advance some Pinewood Derby Racing!

We are currently waiting to hear back from National on some of the things we want to do. . . can you say organized region races(Geographical administrative units of the BSA: Northeast Region, Southern Region, Central Region, and Western Region) and even an open national race! We are hoping to find other enthusiasts in the other regions to help out!

I will tell you that there is going to be a MAJOR re-production of "The Rules" into a "How-To Guide" format that is Cub Friendly this spring/summer for our council to be used by all 22 districts. It will be available by September for the 2010 race year. Do you want to help out?

We hope to get some high quality TRAINING curriculum done and out to everyone for doing things like rule development, car inspections, workshops, races, etc.

One thing I keep reminding myself is that Don Murphy created Pinewood Derby to fill a need - as things have changed it is ok for us to change parts of the program to continue to fulfill the objectives and not get stuck in practices/rules/other things that are purely historical.

PWDRacing is alive and well and will continue on in it's current location, Minnesota, with Warren running it...everything is good now. The April race has been canceled, but proxy racing will start back in May.

The PWDRacing affiliate leagues are local leagues (not proxy leagues) being started by some of our current members. They are using the PWDRacing divisions/rules and are working their schedules around PWDR's. Warren has given each of them a spot on the forum to advertise and promote their local leagues, post points, schedules, etc..
