Guys/Gals,
After looking and checking my large drill press, I have determined it does not hold the tolerance close enough for drilling axle holes. If you had to buy or replace your drill press for drilling axle holes, what would be your first two or three choices and why?

Harbor Freight and Homier also carry that same type of "chinese Mini-Mill". You'll be albe to hold much tighter tolerances with a mill than you can with a drill press. But you're also talking $500 range to get a decent Mini-Mill too. They go on sale for around $420 or so though... Mike B

Ed I got a Proxxon from Santa for Christmas and I would highly recommend it. It is extremely acurate. Also have a bench top drill press from Home Depot, I think it was around 200.00 and it is good for general drilling such as milling weight pockets and drill weight holes. I have drilled some axle holes with it, but prefer the Proxxon for those. Scott Beakerboys

thanks guys. I appreciate the input.
My floor press is now only suitable for general drilling and holes which do not require precision. Oh well, it has served its purpose over the years. I will have to wait until I file taxes to see how much/if any money can be applied to a nicer piece.

I bought the micro lux precision drill press from micro-mark along with the x-y table... I also have a lowes benchtop drill press with about a 1/4" runout which is good for chewing up the underside of cars trying to drill weight pockets...
The x-y table for the micro lux/proxxon is a little small so you may want to consider making a larger aluminum table so you have some more room to work on.
Also, if your drilling axle holes, and your not using Jewkes BLOCK, your axle holes are probably not being drilled correct.
