Before I introduce myself, I would like to thank all of you for sharing the helpful information about PWD. My daughter, son, and I have learned tons from the different posts. My name is Brad Snow, and I live in Troy, Il. My son, Hunter, is a Tiger this year, so this is our first pinewood car for him. He was second in our pack race and we have districts coming up next weekend. My daughter, Lainey, has been in girl scouts for 4 years and each year they have a powder puff derby, so I do have a little experience. I teach 4th grade and look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome Blizz,
You are right. Everyone here is helpful and gracious. Congrats to your son Hunter placing 2nd in his pack. Jayjayrocketman and I just got done last weekend running our pack pwd. It was great to see all the faces of the scouts who won. This site is great for asking questions, so don't hesitate to ask! Good luck next weekend!

Hi! My name is Greg and I'm a Derby-a-holic! After my son (Bear Scout) and I built our first car last month, I can't get enough of these little addicting blocks of wood. I went out and purchased a table top drill press, scroll saw, and band saw. I also purchased all the specialty tools (don't tell my wife). I was ecstatic to find out that one of the derby suppliers (Max V.) is only 15 minutes from my house (could be a real problem. lol.). I'm looking forward to entering some proxy races and maybe even building my own track (can't afford to buy one). Thanks for your time and thanks for this forum.

Greg Houston I like the confession at the beginning. Unfortunately, there is no cure. All you will get from here is constant help, encouragement, and enabling. As far as your wife goes, I think it's to late. She's going to figure it out so I say go ahead and get it over with and get the track. ;D Anyway, welcome to the site. You picked the right one. Dave

AZGreg, will Randy D. (aka Max-V) let you use one of the tracks that he has set up in his location? The last time I stopped by he had two of them set up. You could always check out Max-V for a part time job to see if that would help offset some of the addiction costs. Welcome aboard guys and hope to see you at the races!

Hey Greg,
Let's see some of your cars. Do you know about how to post on photobucket? Pretty simple. PM me if you need assistance.
Welcome to the underground. I can't promise that you will become cured of your addiction anytime soon, however, I do promise that you will get a LOT faster.

Just thought I'd say "hello" from South Dakota.
I am currently building myself a car to run a few races but looking at the rules, it seems that everybody is a little bit different from the next group. Some let you run any 31-8 wheels, some say BSA only with minor sanding. Some allow extended wheel base, some don't. Some allow only (3) wheels touching, others say all (4) must touch. A guy needs about (5) or (6) cars just to meet everybody's rules.
Pack officials let you run this way, then you get to districts and they say you need to change this or that. One set of rules would sure be nice.
But building these cars is half the fun, plus I have a number of designs and paint schemes I want to try so what the heck.
Have fun everybody. I sure am...Beadlock

We had this problem up until this year when we got our district to adopt a standard set of rules. Then our pack adopted the rules. You are right. Building is half the fun. The other half is racing and coming to this site and talking about it. Anything you need to know, the guys here can answer.

different types of racing require different rules. kind of like indy car racing and NASCAR racing, not fair to have an indy car in stock car race. start out easy and move up. i am still on beginners levels of racing but you never know in a few years i may move up. just enjoy and have fun beating us. welcome aboard. there are alot of awesome people in here. we will all do our best to help out in any way possible just short of giving you our cars. talk to you soon.
