Well, not quite the look I was aiming for. . . . front fenders don't match thin wheels. Any suggestions?

Hey there Mr. Slick, it looks more like a hot rod to me. But how in the heck do you do that wood carving? You must still have your whittle chip? Seriously- what tool do you use? It really looks great.

any tool other then my teeth. ;D I use a set of small/micro saws for the rough shaping and then I use a Dremel(a new sponsor of the Bluegrass Nationals) and I also use a nice set of carving knives/gouges with some sandpaper towards the end. This one is getting close to sanding time. I have gone through several Dremel tools in the last 20 years and find that I am using it more and more as the hands get older and older. . . . This car was started back when HR66 was first started . . . I guess I carve about as quick as the wood grows! So, what do I do with the front fenders? thin them out? The problem with that is that they can get broken mighty easy by the kids. . . I left these rather thick to see if I could avoid that. . .

Warren, Nice job so far !! I like the thin wheels with the fenders, my vote is to leave it alone !!

If I had it sitting in front of me, I would probably put at mark at the front end of the fenders even with the front axle heads. Looks like that would be about 1/4 - 3/8" in from the current width. Then I would take it out and lay it on it's side on the belt sander, putting a taper on the fenders so that at the front they just cover the axle heads and at the back it is flush with the front of the front door (as it is currently). I think that "line" may more or less match the line of the hood. Maybe taper / round off a little on the back fenders also. Give it a little bit of "streamlining" Bubba p.s. Nice work!
