Many of you know that I took a new job and am working in Dallas. I noticed that the National Scout Museum was just outside Dallas in Irving, TX.
I went there tonight and talked to the employees who run the museum. They have a track and a timer that tells position, not time.
I might be able to get some cars together and try them out down here. I will have to just send in the fastest car by postition. Not the best scenario but it will at least get me a stable car if the track is in good condition. The employees said that I could clean the track. I probably can get them to let me level the track while I am doing this.
More to come. I will send pictures when I run some cars. I am in Dallas right now. Tomorrow morning, I am flying back to Chicago, take a rental to my apartment in South Beloit, IL, then wash my clothes. Sunday, I will travel to Green Bay to see my mother. Early Monday morning, I will travel to Milwaukee, WI for business. Tuesday night, I will fly back to Dallas, TX, The following Friday I will fly back to Chattanooga, TN to see my family. And it continues.... It is wild guys! Murph

That is good news, that track is a killer and in need of much repair- my grandson won 2 years ago, but did not even want to race on it again because he didn't want his car dinged up.

TXC, Can it be fixed? Were children walking on it? Maybe I can repair it when I spend a weekend in Dallas. However I cannot perform miracles if it is in that bad of shape! Thanks! Murph

I don't know if fixable or not, I would put it at worse than a bad Pack wood track. Possible just improving the stop section would help keep cars from crashing into each other, but many lanes had cars jumping from something in the lane.

From what I know, the track is open to the public daily as part of the Pinewood Derby display. A few years back we put a sponsorship package together and part of it was that we donated a bunch of cars for the kids to run when visiting the museum. Lucky 13 and Lester Laser Creations were generous enough to help out building several of the cars, with that said I am sure the track gets WAY more use than any normal track. Also, with the help of Stuart Ferguson of Micro-Wizzard we were able to provide them with a new finish line system this spring and if memory serves me right he custom made it for a 6 lane "Challenger Track" so it is pretty old school. I dont think they are quite PWDR ready. Lol.
