Hey Everyone, Just thought I'd take a moment to ask you all to wish me luck in a big race here (Houston) tomorrow. Every year at about this time a local radio station hosts a major pinewood derby. You have to be 21 years old or older (I just barely make it ) to enter, and the proceeds benefit a local boy scouts troop. Also, you have to buy a PineCar kit from the station and you have to use the parts in the kits. What's weird is that the kits sold by the station were not all the same this year. Some came with solid one-piece axles only, and some contained both solid axles and nail-type axles, giving the builder the option of using one or the other, or a combination of both. The kit I got came with only solid axles. Next to the BGN this is the biggest, funnest race I enter all year. Our friend "Big Tex" has two cars entered. So, wish us both luck. I'll report in after its over to let everyone know how it goes. Oh, and best of luck to Beaker and $$$ in their big Awana race tomorrow. Giveum heck guys. Later, Steve

Hey all,
Race is over. What a relief!!! It went well. I took first, and Big Tex took 3rd, and a car he built for a friend took 4th. First 4 places were recognized. Actually, Big Tex would easily have gotten 2nd had it not been for one bad run -- just one of those fluke things. Any way, live races are always fun, and this one was no exception. Thanks for the well wishes.
Teresa, awesome job on Ethan's district race. We told you you didn't need to buy an E-Bay car. We said you and Ethan could do it. And you did!!! How cool is that??? You two ROCK. Congrats.
Now we just need to hear from Beak and Dollar.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Later,
Steve H.

I forgot to mention -- I didn't get many pics -- just to preoccupied with the race. Also, lighting was bad for my weak little camera. I imagine that the radio station took quite a few. I'll see if I can post a link or something.

Did Rod Ryan (is that right ?) give you a hard time about winning again ? Lucky 13Yeah, the DJ is "Rod Ryan," and yeah, he teased me about winning again, but in a very flattering and friendly way. . Hey Doc, Not sure I'd do that if I were you. Big Tex was right on my heals and he's getting faster and faster each year. He builds a very nice car. Now if I could only get him to start racing with us. Don, if you are reading this, congrats on the great showing, and seriously, think about racing with us. Steve

So when are ya-all going to add pinewood derbies to the spring break activities down south? Congrats to all the great racing and I would heed the suggestion of not expecting the same winners next year. . .
