Some of you (hopefully very, very few of you! ) may have wondered where Mad Max and I have been lately; perhaps you have missed our loquacious ramblings here on the board? Well... fear not, we haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Rather, frustrated with our inability to catch up with a well lubed Wasabi, Max and I have been spending countless hours squirreled away down in our Pinewood Laboratory, experimenting with radical new ideas and techniques in our never ending quest to raise the bar in our Pinewood Pursuits. Not having experienced any momentous epiphanies brainstorming on our own, we sought the help of outside consultants. After an 8 week engagement, the engineering firm we hired provided us with the following video summary of their recommendations. Being the generous and sharing types of guys we are, we felt it appropriate to share these findings with all of you. So without further ado, watch, learn, and enjoy. ;D

Slow Steve,
Thanks for sharing the video with the rest of us slow guys.
Now we can all beat Fast Steve/ProQuest. I never dreamed it would be so easy (and cheap).

Just put my order in for one! Can't believe it was that simple and took this long to figure it out. Scott Beakerboys

Watching that video reminded of when I started reading Doc Jobes Pinewood Derby Physics Book. I sat there for about an hour scratching my head like a monkey trying to figure out what I was reading !! LOL !! and no, I'm not cracking on Doc Jobe, he is a very intelligent man. I just don't have the capacity to understand much of that book. Anyways.... Glad to see you found your way out of the Pinewood Laboratory Steve (and Max). We've definitely missed your "Loquacious ramblings" ;D !! Great video !! Lucky 13

Well, after a year of chasing Steve, I think I have finally come up with a way to beat him. It has taken countless hours of experimenting and testing, with many many dollars sunk into this revelutionary car design. I thought about getting the Turbo Whatamacallit devise, but I decided that was too large of an investment. So I simply went to the source of all things gaget(Radio Shack) and came up with the winning combination. It runs 2.33 seconds on my 42 ft Best Track. It is a blur going down the track, so fast, you can't even tell what color it is. The displayment of air must somehow give it a cloak of invisability. You release the start gate and Wham!, 2.33. I just hope it passes inspection. Scott Beakerboys

Scott, What an absolutely brilliant design. So strange, I had just finished scetching plans to build one just like it, but mine is going to be green ;D
Is there anyway you could shoot a video of it for us?
Way to stay a step ahead!

Of course, we might have to separate the "air driven" from the "direct drive" models...

Just keep in mind that 90% of what I know I stole from somebody else LOL Bubba p.s. If I can ever get to the end of Cub Scout PWD season, I've got a new model in the works with slightly higher source voltage and a smaller flywheel for a quicker start off the line Not saying I'm gonna break 2 seconds, but I'm certainly gonna try. If all else fails, maybe I'll try a direct drive model with "air assist".

Rick, that video is awesome! I haven't seen that before. How the heck did they stop it? Did you ever consider a parachute?

Rick, that video is awesome! I haven't seen that before. How the heck did they stop it? Did you ever consider a parachute? Enrico David did his usual terrific job on the video end. He said he had a little trouble stopping the car, though. Mostly my fault as I got in a rush and didn't have time to do anything with the bottom, it was a nice smooth wood finish that kind of just slid on down the road, so to speak. Never gave the parachute a thought, you guys have me focused strictly on the "get there faster" part of the equation LOL. Bubba
