Instead of inadvertently hijacking someone else's thread, I'll start a new one. I did this once before when I built FahrvergLubin, but didn't realise that when I took the pics out of Photobucket, they vanished from the thread as well This is my tenth build of a PWD racer, and I'm gonna keep a progressive record until I race it in February. Hope you enjoy the pics. The first pic is after a rough-cut of the block and putting in my shapes and cavity for weighting; spent the day (1-01-09) sanding the body put a piece of 1/64" plywood on the bottom to put my weight cubes on this is what it weighs currently Later... 300 grams? Now that would be a heavyweight!! Nope, the scale was set to ounces and showed .3 oz. which converts to 8.5 grams Later... Lee

That is really looking good! What an interesting design. I can hardly wait to see the finished project. When will it be done? What color is it going to be???

Hi Mom, I'm waiting for a shipment of "stuff" from MaxV so that I can get on with the build (tungsten cubes, axle bending tool). I've been idle for awhile and need to get going on it!! Once the weight gets here, I can place it in the body and decide if I'm going to fill the cavity or cover it with thin plywood like the bottom. Then comes the bodywork
Haven't chosen a color yet, but usually lean towards the simple metallics for their sparkle
Later...

Finally!!! Received my package from MaxV yesterday via FedEx. From past experience, USPS is much quicker, but that's a whole 'nuther story. Here is the little fella, loaded with tungsten blocks ...and what it weighs I decided to fill the cavity with wood filler from Elmer's instead of covering it with plywood and it became quite clear that the plywood would have saved some weight and possibly a little grief total weight so far (still need to finish sand/prime/paint) As the wood filler cures, it'll lose a little weight from moisture loss, so I'll weigh it this evening when I get home from work. Also, the sanding process will take away some weight. We shall see Later... Lee

Lee, as usual nice work can definitely see your personal "style in your cars. BTW, it was great seeing them in person at the BGO. Question: I never used Elmers wood filler. How does it compare to Bondo in terms of- dry time, cure time, weight, & sandability I'm sure my wife won't run me out of the house because of fumes ;D

Thanks Sapp... Had to laugh at your Bondo moment, been there, done that, got the bruises ;D The Elmers wood filler has no odor, doesn't get hot when curing which causes the cars to twist (ask me how I know ), is easy to sand but porous and if put on too thick, will shrink/crack. I like it because you can fool with it in a short time, and if you wet your finger, you can easily spread it and smooth it. Plus, it can be washed off with water after you're done playing in it When I got home from work this evening, I gave the car its' first sanding, and the total weight is now down to 4.84 oz. Later... Bodywork is done ... now for the paint BTW, if you think you've seen this car before, well you have, sortta. I'm using the FahrvergLubin style, but a little thicker. The previous car will have to be retired this summer (made it for Bluegrass '08) and its' also lost two fights with USPS, being broken in three places in the center ribs. It still runs good, though Later... Lee

It's looking good Lee !! Can't wait to see the finished product !!
Don't forget, the 12 months rule is gone now, so "Fahrverglubin" can run as long as you want it to !!

Just a quick update... Body has been primed and blocked (several coats of primer applied) Weight gain is negligible, converted to grams is 136.9g, plenty of room for a color coat, graphics, and clear coat Later... Lee Hope everyone is staying warm in this cold snap!!

Put on the first coat of paint, called Sailfin Blue Pearl, a Toyota color. It's a dark bluish green with a fine gold metallic. You really need to see it in the sun. The color really "pops". Looks sorta grey in the picture though As you can see, the weight hasn't increased by much. This coat will be blocked, then another coat will be added before a clear coat Later... Lee

I've been thinking about it. The back of the car does present itself as a nice "billboard" for something. After seeing some of the masterpieces from others (yourself definitely included!!), I can't just race a "plain" car, and there's still plenty of time before raceday Later... Lee
