Looks like he finally decided to join the board. Mr. Dollar is my RA leader at my church and fellow RA racer. And he's faster than me! I think he will be participating in BGN! ;D So everyone give him a great big WELCOME and make him feel at home. Scott Beakerboys

Welcome to the board sir. If your faster than Beakerboysracing, then I need to meet you. Beaker has came in, and learned things very fast, and I hope to see you, and Beaker at the BG race.

MLDOLLAR,
Welcome top the PWD Message Board. It is a great place to learn, share, and meet new friends.
I hope you are able to attend the BGN, you won't regret it.
If there is anything any of us can do to help, feel free to ask. If you really are faster than Scott, feel free to tell us some of your secrets.
Send a few cars in to the proxy races each month and join in on the fun.
Phil

Welcome CougarDog! I'm just a newbie here as of three or so months ago, but every single builder I've had the pleasure to communicate with on the message boards has been very gracious, friendly and more than happy to help novices like my son and I learn more about building Pinewood Derby cars and making them go fast (although it sounds as if you've already got a pretty good handle on building fast cars, so if you've got any good pointers, feel free to send 'em my way!). Welcome aboard! Steve B.

Gentlemen, thanks for the warm reception. now lets get down to business... CAN I PLAY??? Beak is being too gracious. Yes, I've had some success in RA derby races. We did take 1st place at the Natioal race. I had to take a break after that. We had been at it since October. Aministrating the race at church was a lot more complex than I anticipated. I had decided, due to the heavy work load, that I would kinda put my stuff on cruise control and not fuss over it. Then this guy Beak shows up. DAAANG!!! I had to change my plans. Out of 60 or so cars that raced, I built at least 90% of them, plus my 13. Every one got the best I had to offer within financial limits. Beak stepped up and helped with wheel and axle prep. I must say though, for a church level race it was very exciting. I think Beak will back me up on this...I don't think there was a single race won by over a car length (unless they were racing me or Beak). Our kids were in different divisions so they never raced each other. I forgot to lube my car before the race and I got beat by a GIRL in the adult division. Yeah, I built her car as well, but that doesn't make me feel any better. Beak and I finally meet in the OPEN division (8oz, bearings and so on). How'd that one turn out Beak? After that, Regional and State races were a blur. Beak and I took home a truck load of hardware. Then the National race in Indianapolis. Beak and I spent a LOT of time prepairing for that. We moved the track to his basement (sorry guys, it would not fit in my basement). And yes, it is still there.( I do have the authority to remove it... if you think it is necessary). Preparing for the race was very frustrating. Different rules (no wiggle room at all), different type track. hard to test on a center rail track when you're racing on a side rail track. We just didn't know what to expect. We spent more time on the alignment board than the track. Our diligence and hard work payed off. Beaker's son got 3rd. My boy pulled off a 1st. Our cars were very equally prepared, mine just responded more favorably to the track. Anyway... after all that I was quite frazzled, on the verge of burnout. So, I took a break. In the meantime Beak starts hangin' out with you guys and built another fleet of cars. We still talk just about everyday, bouncing ideas off of each other. See each other every Sunday (he and his wife are my daughters sunday school teachers). So I know what you guys are up too. After all, as he stated Ive been LURKING in the background. I'd have to say unequivocally that I would not be where I'm at now without his input and hard work. I hope he'd say the same about me. As for proxy racing, right now I've got some catchin' up to do so I'm going to recycle a couple of cars and focus on Modified, making it to BGN and ProQuest (I'm not tooled up for needles yet). I can promise you I will NOT be as prolific as Beak. I'm afraid he's doin' too much and he is gonna burn out, then I won't not have anyone to play with. Came up with what I think is a pretty good idea today. Called Beak and discussed it with him. I think if we can execute this and it works (can you bump draft in PWD?) it might put him where he wants to be. Some of you are probably already doin' it. We'll let you know if it works. Again, thanks for the warm welcome. Mike $ P.S. You guys are off the Hook. His wife blames ME!

Welcome to the fun! Try not to burnout . . . it is no fun then!
I have to ask, what is Bump Draft?
Hope to see you at the races. . . either proxy or at the BGN in person.

Drafting The practice of two or more cars, while racing, to run nose-to-tail, almost touching. The lead car, by displacing the air in front of it, creates a vacuum between its rear end and the nose of the following car, actually pulling the second car along with it. If the second car is faster, It can bump/push the first car ahead of others and hopefully advance his position.
Watch the Nascar Talladega event in October and all will be clear.

The problem with bump drafting in PWD is I don't think the rules allow for lane changing in the middle of the race. Plus, I think you'd have a hard time doing a sling shot around another car to take the win. ;D Could you imagine having th "BIG ONE" wreck on a PWD track with all those cars piled up. ;D LOL Man, now I'm going to be thinking about this all day trying to figure out have to make a car jump over another for the win. Hey Cougardog, as fast as you are, you can stage your car behind mine and push me down the track. I might could beat you then. ;D Scott

Oh - drafting I understand very well. I seem to have lots of people behind me on the MS-150 bike ride since I make such a nice wind diverter. . . . a bit wider then most of the bikers! I really like it when I can draft behind a nice group and take it easy. I think that IF the cars were 7" in length TOTAL and they were connected by something solid like a pipe allowing one to move ahead if it was moving faster it would still be DQed because the weight can not be moving. . . now if you could get the lane jumping down(I have seen it done by lots of cars ) you would have to get it to jump towards the middle all the time or take the 2 foot dive to the hard floor. . . Anyway, lane jumping is a case where we would have to re-run the race due to possible interference.

I have given up on the drafting, and now I'm working on SKIDDING.
Skidding is the action where friction is a fraction of the vertical reaction which won't result in traction.
As you can tell by my times, I have a long way to go with it, but I keep trying.
Good Luck.
