Summer Plans

We are looking forward to a very busy summer!

We have 83 items on the To-Do list for the workshop.

I have set up a website to help raise funds for some of the items needed.

One of the things we want is to get a new video camera for the shop. Ideally this will allow for capture of tuning runs and then a slow motion replay on the big screen.

The camera will also allow for the resumption of recording and broadcasting of the league races.

We also plan on using the camera for the "station instructional presentations" that we will be doing.

So, some of the items on the To-Do list involve making PowerPoint presentations for each of the "stations" at the workshop. We have already bought the computers to run the presentations and Dan is in the process of getting them set up for our use. We still need the monitors/keyboards/cables/etc for each of them.

If anyone has experience making fantastic PowerPoint presentations, including closeups and video, please consider helping out. We have a couple of volunteer youth for doing the videos already!

Two of the tuning lanes are coming off the base to prep it for painting on the top.

Any suggestions as to the type and color of paint?

Characteristics:
This is the "shiny" side of Masonite (surface prep/adhesion?)
We don't want to have to dust too often (smooth, anti-static?)
We don't want it to show graphite or if it does show graphite, it needs to be easily cleaned off.
We want it to look cool if we put LED lighting under the tracks

That is what Dan and I thought. Either a gray or tan. The tan would add to the "wood tone" of the room and we thought that might be too much.

One idea that I like is the white glossy strip under each track with the gray between the tracks.


Does anyone know an affordable locksmith? We have the 24 lockers and I think it would be less expensive to get them re-keyed/combinations reset then buying all new locks. The locks are the standard Master Locks like those at most schools. The problem is we don't have a reset key or a master key.

The plan is to get the lockers into position today!

Lockers are in position. Still looking for a locksmith or other resource... I really don't want to have to buy 24 new locks.

Amazing what $70 worth of paint and 3 people spending several hours can do! The Tuning Track Platform (TTP) has been primed and has the first coat of paint! We went with "Silver Sword" as the color. It looked darker on the computers then on the track. Hope that it will be darker once it is dried.

League race is Sunday the 26th. Remember that the month is a slow one so we will be doing the slowest car race.

Any thought of an addition of a metal strip to the tuning tables to aid in reproducible adjustments?  It would make it easier for the kids to do it on their own.  Something like the photo below:

That is a great idea. We'll have to test some adhesives to get them to stick.
