Hey all. We're getting the itch again as we'll get our kits in November. I've been working with Superior axle jig to see if it can work for drilling those canted rear axles. It was $19.00 and has the guide holes in it to keep the bit from walking. I seem to have gotten it setup right but it's finicky because the drill press table has to have an absolutely flat/smooth surface to rest the tool on.
My boy decided to make a military Jeep this year for his derby car. We'll see how fast we can make it. He wants faux leaf springs, drive axles and shafts underneath and seats, shifters and steering wheel on top. Have you guys discovered anything over the summer that is new or a tweak that looks interesting?

Things I remember being discussed were axle prep and coatings, wheel bore, WASHERS, fenders, and weight per wheel.

Hey all. We're getting the itch again as we'll get our kits in November. I don't understand this. Do you mean that the itch subsided for a while? That concept is foreign to me. ;-) Be sure to check out the new council rules. The big change is that washers are now legal.

The itch did actually subside about a month after the Council race. It took me a month to stop thinking about what we could've done differently/better. Then in around Aug we had a Leadership mtg for our Pack and everyone was talking about the stuff we would do over the season and all I could think about sitting there was how come nobody is talking about the DERBY!!!!! My buddy at work now has to listen to derby car build strategies/updates for the next few months....maybe even for the next 8 months if we advance through the events.
The washers look interesting. I don't know how to use them though. Do I recess the washers into the wood? I'm looking at nail polish now at Amazon in case the washers look too intimidating. This is his last year a a Cub Scout so I'm afraid to shy away from what we know worked last year.
