Well here's my first attempt with fenders, and did some milling out to cut weight. Obviously its all pine, 1/16" Balsa top on the back. the car weighed 10 grams, and with fenders 19 grams. I'm running pretty aggressive for COM and the best I could get is 3.009. Once I added a lil weight to the DFW I was able to get 2.990. This is all on some out of the Box BSA wheels and Pinecar Axles with 2500 grit sanding. Im waiting on axles and wheels I ordered. I'm using clear mailing tape on both sides of the car to help with air flow. I haven't tried it with or without the tape. I have to manually start my cars so I cant get enough consistent runs to see any effects, I would assume it would be very minimal if anything at all I did pick up some 1/16", 3/16" and 1/4" Balsa to make fenders for my next car I want to play around with.

looks great. i would not put any weight on the front keep it all in the back. running four wheels and the design you have there will be more than enough weight on the dfw. just my 2 cents.

Thanks ZZ, exactly why I posted pics to see if you guys see something I'm doing wrong or just give me some pointers.
The thing is I got quicker when I put the weight up there. I can easily remove it and tune some more

Did you also remove weight from the back to compensate or just simply add it to front? If just adding to the front... Did you try adding that same weight to the back without putting in the front?

if you have three scales you can check the weight on the dfw. i run 10 to 12 grams on the dfw.

Did you also remove weight from the back to compensate or just simply add it to front? If just adding to the front... Did you try adding that same weight to the back without putting in the front? it was at 136 grams with the cubes and tape. that's where I started, I was getting 3.010-.019. I brought the weight to 143, I added that in front of the rear axle on the DFW side. Times went up to .022-.033. From there I put that weight that I just added and put it at the DFW like in the pictures and it dropped to 2.990-2.999. during all the weight adding and moving I never changed the DFW steering. I got the car set when it was at 136 grams. After ZZ said try it in the back I removed it and put it in front if the rear axle again but this time on the non-DFW side and the times went up to 3.030-.050's. COG is at 1/2". any suggestions here? should I take a couple cubes from the back and put it in front of the rear axle? this car is completely just for tuning, if I can get any consistent good times ill use it for some dad scout racing.

In a pinch you can use one scale as long as all wheels not on the the scale set perfectly level with the wheel on the scale. Not ideal but...

One other thing you might want to check is the clearance underneath for your fendors... i try and go straight across from the bottom of the car and make sure that when the wheel is out towards the head of the axle there is plenty of clearance. Generally about the width of 2 pennies. Hope that might help too. Attachments:

If you have balsa fenders a razor blade is easy to cut with. Attachments:

Hope that might help too. my second pic I posted you'll see that I cut mine at a 45 degree on the bottom. when I set the car on the track I have plenty of clearance. I did pick up some balsa since these first ones were made, and Spacewalker had a video showing how you do it here. will try that next time Thanks
