Im looking at the Microlux press but I'd like to get a X-Y table as well. are these drill presses good enough to have a X-Y table or should I just get a Harbor Freight cheapo for the X-Y table and leave the Microlux for drilling?

I have both the varible speed Microlux drill press & the X-Y table; the Table is on my shelf in the shop, the base on my Microlux is big enough to drill my cars using The Block;

I have the MicroLux also. It hat a lot of nice features including the larger table. Unfortunately mine has a slope from back to front that I have to overcome. I think they all take a little something to make 'perfect' by our standards.

I'm curious will it cause more run out on the Drill if I use a X-Y table? I wouldn't want to damage the Drill Press and cause it to make poor drilled holes.

The x/y table will not cause runout, but the table has play in it in order to be able to move. Most of these tables can have a good deal of vertical play at the ends. If you just feel for this play you might not even be able to tell, but once you measure the table and the effects that even resting your hand on it causes then you will understand why using one for drilling your axles holes is not a good idea.
I have said this for several years now. While the table can make drilling your holes easier in the aspect of aligning to point of aim, the you can very easily cause toe or or toe out by something as simple as resting your hand on the x/y table while drilling.
I use the microlux drill myself and at the shop. I have not had a single issue with mine in the two years I have owned it. I have drilled several thousand bodies with it and I am still on the first drive belt. That being said I know some guys that have not had the same luck as I have. While I do not know exactly how they have used theirs, I know of one guy that has had to replace his belt more then once and of the issue quadad discussed.

I guess in my mind I never planned to drill with the X-Y table, I only want to use it for milling the bottoms of cars. that's my concern about run out. I've seen little comments about guys having two drill presses one for drilling only and the other for every other job.
Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

K,
I guess I didn't understand what you were asking, but I get it now. I have not used my Mircolux for milling. I have used other drill presses for it with a x/y table and it has worked well. as far as it causing more run out in the drill press over time, I can't speak for that as I have never used that drill press to drill axle holes.
