Hi folks,
I'm a software engineer and new cub master and am starting to get into this. I would like to get better because a) it's fun, and b) I want to be able help cubs in my pack. Thus, I want to take away skills that are applicable to my local district rules (which means official BSA wheels/axles with no grooving, etc. and dry lubricant only). I entered a car myself at districts this year in the open class and out of 120ish cars (scouts included) I had 2nd or 3rd best time.
Here are some questions I have, I appreciate your help.
1) What is the difference between pure stock and limited? Is it wheelbase only? Our rules mostly match pure stock except for our district has no wheelbase restrictions. 2) All of the leagues allow oil, correct? If so, is anybody racing in these leagues with graphite only and are they competitive enough? 3) Times aren't really comparable across tracks, correct? Our district track was an older ~45' and my car ran 19.1 (or I guess 191, why does everybody multiple it by 10?). I sort of want to enter the car as is just to gauge what the difference would be on your track, but I'm afraid I would still be halfway down the track when everyone else is finishing. Are you guys used to this or am I going to confuse the camera man. 4) Canted axles and rail-riding is allowed in all leagues, correct? 5) Does anybody in the forums live in the northwest and willing to help a newbie out?
Thanks, Irvin

Thanks, Irvin Welcome aboard Irvin - I live here in Shoreline, Washington. I have been in this league for a few years and I am sure I can help you. I have a track here at home - not a Best Track that the league uses but very helpful. Oil seems to be favored in this league but I have done well in the Spec.Tuner division last year which was graphite only. That division is retired - not more graphite only races here!. Give me a personal message (PM) and we can talk more.

Thanks, Irvin Welcome to the board, Irvin! As to your questions...
1) Pure Stock must use 4 wheels. Limited can use 3 wheels and a peg. PS has a wheelbase of 4 3/8 and Limited has no wheel base. PS must use BSA wheels. Limited may use BSA wide wheels, Pine-car, Pine-Pro, MV Precision or Awana wide wheels.
2) All leagues allow oil. Don't know about graphite only but I would doubt it.
3) Correct, especially between different types of tracks. Everyone here was a beginner at one point, so yes, we are used to this. Don't worry, I will not be confused.
4) Yes
5) Cycrunner is the closest to you and is a great builder and racer. ;D
Feel free to keep asking questions. The guys here on this board are the best.
