Hello all,
I am new to pinewood derby. The reason I got into it was about 2 weeks ago I was informed by my daughter that I needed to help my oldest grandson of all most 7 build a car for cub scouts. By the time we go every thing to do the build we where down to having it ready in 3 days.
I did much research on the Internet, which I was amazed, what all it took to make a well running car. I thought all you did cut the car out and put the wheels on WRONG. I spent well over 20 hours on the car in the 3 days I had to get it done. On Friday the day before the race at 9PM the paint was still wet. So I went to bed and got up at 4 AM to finish it before I left for the race at 7AM.
Being I never build a pinewood derby car before and the car has never seen a track was not sure how it would do. Well all the work paid off and he won first place with an average of 0.18 faster then the average of the next fastest car. The average time on a 42 foot fast track was 3.151 which I understand is not real fast but for my first car and limited time which I did not have time to do all I wanted I am please. We go to round two this weekend that I know the competition is going to be much greater. .
Been racing radio control off road for many years. I now want to build my self at least a couple cars. I have 3 other grandsons and one granddaughter which are two sets of twins so I am sure I will get a lot of practice with PWD cars. I am even considering getting a practice track with a timer for testing.
Thanks
Jeff
