This is a post to discuss things we could do in 2012 that are "out-of-the-box". The purpose is tp brainstorm ideas and throw them out for discussion. Maybe Steve and the others will choose to use some of the ideas - maybe not.
I will start with a couple:
Best of Show - to encourage creativity in design. Pick one a month either voted on by live attendees or by posted pics. Winner gets bragging rights - or free race following month - or track winners all year long and the one that recieves most wins gets a trophy or prize package...
Monthly winners - get one free entry following month in division you won in. Second place gets a 1/2 price entry - 3rd - well you get bragging rights.
Anybody else wanna throw out some out-of-the box ideas? Consider things that will not force an increase in entry fees - but may attract new competition. I think the cost - considering shipping - is high enough.

I would not support raising entry fees. I have worked very hard to keep the cost at $10 per car. I know this may sound like a high price, but to be honest it is very low considering what each racer gets for it.
1) The greatest race venue in the country 2) The best racing in the country 3) The best video in the country 4) High quality photographs of each of the racers cars edited with their information 5) Great record keeping of each car, including overall finish, heat results, and individual car stats 6) Awards and trophies to the top three in each class 7) Great livefeed of the race
I have worked hard to make the 2012 prize package bigger and better then ever. This will include cash prizes for the winner in each class, also prizes targeted to the class the racer is racing in. All the details will be available this weekend.

Just trying to throw some stuff out there to take a look at. I clearly said look at things that would not force an increase in costs.
I am happy with racing at PWDR but I don't think it ever hurts to brainstorm ideas to make improvements.
I was trying to look at areas that may increase participation and therefore proceeds to help pay for the cost of running the races. Not looking for a return here.

I always liked the WIRL show class as it did encourage creativity and imagination. So, yeah, I would support that!

I plan on doing some racing here in 2012 and here is a selfish thought: run the most popular classes first (I am guessing Limited, Pure Stock, Stock, Modified, Bearings).
They are usually long racing days and that way the majority of the racers could participte in as many classes as possible (whether live or live feed).

That's how Evo does it.

I'm not sure but Evo might start with Pure Stock - then Limited. I suspect these will be the biggest classes.

They are usually long racing days and that way the majority of the racers could participte in as many classes as possible (whether live or live feed). First off, I am not picking on you Jim, I have always enjoyed racing with you and look forward to doing it again in 2012. Your personal sacrifices in life make you someone we could all learn from and look up to… I seem to be hearing more and more that the “pro” or needle classes should be pushed aside or even eliminated in some other leagues. The reason why the needle classes are less popular is because the there are very few products on the market and those products can’t compete with the custom “pro” builders. I can pick up a set of Pure Stock wheels, SS Pure Stock axles, drill a canted axle body, build a car and run with the group. That is why the Pure Stock class Evolution is adding next year is so important. It allows for new racers to come in and be in the mix right from the beginning. Can a builder do that in Pro-Mod? What you typically see is a racer will start in the PS, Limited, Stock type classes and progress through the divisions as their experience and skill increases. Do the needle classes have less participation than the other divisions? Yes… That is mainly because it takes a higher skill level to build these cars because there are no off-the-shelf items available that will get you right in the mix from the start. Why is that? That is because the racers in these divisions just have a great passion to race, run fast cars, aren’t in it to make money and are tight lipped. So what is the solution to making the needles divisions more popular? Aren’t the “Pro” divisions for the more seasoned builder that wants to challenge their building skills? If that is true then I would expect the “Pro” divisions to have less participation then a Limited division, but that doesn’t mean they are any less important. If a top needle racer sold sets of acrylic wheels with bushings and needle axles to match what difference would that make in participation? I would guess it would make a lot of difference. I just think pushing aside or eliminating the needle divisions is leading the great sport/hobby/addiction of PWD racing in the totally wrong direction.

I just think pushing aside or eliminating the needle divisions is leading the great sport/hobby/addiction of PWD racing in the totally wrong direction. I agree with Scott, needle axle cars are a challenge and not for the beginning PWD racer. They require a lot more finesse than most beginners are capable of handling. I think after a year or so of running big axle cars with some success, one would be able to move up to the needles.
I agree also that the items commercially available at the present time for needle axle cars will get a good racer "close", but not to the next level. It takes a good set of skills and a good imagination to run ProMod/Pro Stock............DaPine is a perfect example of this. I know how Scott builds his cars and he knows how I build mine...........we DO NOT build them the same, but have similar results. That is what is neat about the Pro classes........you get to be creative. To drop the needle divisions would be a step in the wrong direction and I am sure Steve has no intention of doing so. Anyway..........you can't hardly fall asleep at the computer watching the Pro Classes run..........they just don't take that long to run. LOL I'm sure Pure Stock and Limited this coming year will take a good 3 hours of time to run, but a PWD racer has to start some where and these 2 classes are the best to learn the "ropes"

PWDRacing has no intention of dropping the needle classes! They will continue as long as I am running the league races. I know several of us have been talking about building some needle cars this year and I certainly want to showcase my new needle axles.

When are the "Evolution Razors" coming out? Get those and a set of the new Evolution axles and everybody can play with needles!
Sorry 5 J's, I may have sent your thread in a different direction.

I am not going to let any information on that out. I am not saying they are not in the works, but if they are I am not releasing any info on them yet.
