In looking at the race times for May it was interesting to compare the top three times between the big axel divisions (Modified, Stock) with the "any axel" divisions, most likely needles (Pro Stock, Pro Mod). I would expect to see faster times for Pro Modified using razor wheels and small diameter axels than times for Modified using razor wheels and big axels. Likewise, I would expect to see faster times for Pro Stock using wide wheels and needle axels than times for Stock cars using wide wheels and big axels. However, Cash Racing posted identical times for his Mod and Pro Mod cars of 2.8512 (1st place in Mod vs 3rd in Pro Mod). In Stock, Cash Racing placed 2nd with a 2.8910, 3rd with 2.8943, but only 2.8942 in Pro Mod for 1st place! The question is why are big axel cars getting so competitive with the needles? In my opinion I think it is because it is very difficult to do a super job of bore prep for the small holes for the needles. Bore prep for the larger big axel holes is easier to accomplish using the latest processes ( Sporty's and Murph's for example). Apparently the better bore prep for big axels overcomes the inherent advantage of the smaller diameter axels. Anyone else have ideas about this?

I would say Terry ran very well on Sat. ,very well indeed. My ideas are this and I am not putting Terry or anyone else down. BnB has not run any of his needle axle cars at PWDR the first half and everyone knows he is the "King of Needles". If he does run any in the second half, the difference between a big axle car and a small axle car will be quite obivious.
I agree, big axle cars have made huge strides in the past year and I am sure they will continue to get even faster. There are many new faces and ideas out there which in my opinion will make the hobby even more competitive.

Cycrunner, BSB
I just started working with needles, my Pro-Mod was running Needles this month. "Falcor" was .0004 faster when I changed it to needles versus big axles on my track. I think back in the day when needles was king, most big axle cars was running on graphite, that would explain the big difference in times, but with so many new oil processes out there it has brought the times much closer!! I do think a well setup big axle car can hang with most needle cars, but the few guys that can figure out needles will always be a tick faster. My 2 cents worth ;D

Terry did have some great runs this past week. He is certainly running very well and I too am not trying to take anything away from that.
My thoughts on why the times appeared so close is that the normal top runners in the needle classes did not have their best cars at the race. They knew they were in the top six safely and did not need to tip their hands by showing off their best cars. I know that several people have faster cars that were not at the race, but you will see these cars later in the year.
That being said the gap in time is getting smaller and I think that you will see it get even smaller. I do think that after a while you will see the times drop in the needle classes like you are seeing in the large axle classes.

I remember reading this thread when I was only making limited cars back in May and I ran across it again today. So Evo I think your prediction was half right:)

I still think we have not seen the finest of the needle cars show up. I am thinking we will see some good times this month because you have to run the car at some point during the year to use it in the finals. I could see a couple fast cars coming out this month.
Now with that being said, I know there are several guys working very hard to find new or improve on their oil processes. The times these cars are running is amazing, everyone is trying so hard to win.
What is so cool is that anyone can win or set track records. It's neat seeing the racing so tight and not knowing who is going to win keeps us all on our toes and watching closely.

I might have one new PM coming out this month.....21 cars in a year is enough.....not counting the ones that didn't make the cut!!!!!!!

That is a good start, you have time for another. Make it 22.
