Once again there will be TWO races in a single month. The normal PwdRacing points race is on the 15th. A SPECIAL exhibition race is on the 14th as a part of the Chief Black Dog District Pinewood Derby. This race will be on the 64 foot Challenger track so your cars will have to run a bit longer to get to the finish. There are about 140 boys who will be racing their cars in the regular races. I plan on taking a break partway through for the "Open Division" races. Your car will be running once in each lane, a total of 6 runs. I don't plan on having the normal "practice" run to train the workers and pick out/fix the cars that have a hard time getting to the finish. To see the stats for the track check out "2007 Unit Results" from the PwdRacing.com home page. There will be a fantastic trophy for the winner and recognition items for everyone else -- looks like a couple real nice of patches and certificate will be what the budget has in it. Registration Form: www.pwdracing.com/cbd_pwd_2007flier.htmlRules: www.pwdracing.com/cbd_rules_2007.htmlI hope to see lots of you race at both the District Open Division and the normal Points race the next day! -- Two races in a weekend and only one shipping cost! I am working on getting internet access for the District races so they can be available LIVE! Thanks and hope to see you racing!

Don't know if we'll run in the Special Exhibition race, but I'll plan on at least leaving Ramone up there in case you want to let the "Black Dog" boys have a look at him. He's the car that lights up, plays "Low Rider" and bounces the front end up and down. Yes, I get carried away sometimes...

That would be great!
I will have an enclosed display case for the Open Division cars so they can be seen but not touched except for the actual racing.

So, how many of you are willing to try to make it to the end of the long track . . . . the the pin to finish line distance is an additional 22 feet beyond the 36 feet for the normal BestTrack. The "fast cars" from the pack races (ultra light wheels, lots of W, little wood, quite running) are turning times in the low 4.3 second range. Normal wheels are turning the low 4.4 second range. Warthog Woodcars' modifieds (Speeder and Starburst) turned sub 4.2 times last spring. I will also have a "Display Only" area to let the kids see the cars if you don't want to actually race twice in a weekend. I'm going to cough up/donate($15 per car) enough to race Old Woody, Mr Gator, and F-1 so you are pretty sure of having a good showing for your car in comparison! BTW, since I am the head inspector and I want the kids to get some new ideas, HotRod 66 cars will also be allowed to race in the Open division. Remember that the race is BEFORE the normal PwdRacing race in April. Check-in is on Friday the 13th of April. . . I'll be making a trip up to Warthogs to pick up cars if they get sent there.

I'm a little unclear about the open race on the 14th. I gather that only "wide wheels" are allowed, but do they have to be BSA, or are other brands (PinceCar, RS, etc.) ok? Thanks.

For open division, all are fine - even ones like RSNs used in regular modified division. If a car can be in ANY of the PwdRacing divisions it can race in the Open on the 14th. The will be a semi too! don't know if it will fit behind the starting pin, but it should be a fine display!
WHEELS: Modified wheels must conform to the following specifications:
A. Wheels must be 31mm diameter or smaller.
B. Wheels must be constructed of plastic, rubber, or polyurethane.
C. Wheel hubs may be made of metal, but may never come in direct surface contact with the track.
There must be at least four wheels on the car, however, it is not required that all four wheels make contact with the track surface. The wheels must be attached directly to axle and spin freely.
AXLES: Axles must not be connected to any device that mechanically alters rotation and spin.

...There will be a semi too! don't know if it will fit behind the starting pin, but it should be a fine display! Semi? Did someone say Semi? ;D I have 2 that each have separate cab and trailer units. One is an open dump trailer and the other is a car carrier that carries matchbox cars (although it is very overweight when it does so). I could send them in if you want. Do you have dimensions on the length of the track behind the starting pin? They hang slightly over the back of our pack track, but are built so that they don't catch on the edge. They're both pretty quick for as bulky as they look (former Open Class champs - albeit with some "extra" weight allowed). I believe the individual components (2 cabs and 2 trailers) are all under 5 oz., but they fall mainly in the "entertaining the boys" category (like Ramone) anyway. You could maybe give them an "exhibition run". It is kind of fun to watch. Just let me know...

If we can get more Semis I'll add the additional 12" extension behind the normal track, should provide over 20" of track behind the pegs to race them. How heavy are these? Will they break through the stop section? The heaviest car so far has been a 6 lb (yes pound) block of milled steel. I had to add extra padding at the end.

Will they break through the stop section? The heaviest car so far has been a 6 lb (yes pound) block of milled steel. I had to add extra padding at the end. The Dump Semi when empty weighs about 10 oz., as does the Car Carrier. The Car Carrier then has an extra 7 oz. worth of matchbox cars. These are not "super heavyweights". My intent was to make a Cab and a Trailer that were each legal (i.e. 5 oz. - or close at least) individually, then "couple them" and see how they ran. With the Dump Truck last year some spontaneous weight additions "broke out", with it starting off empty, then running with a bag (5 total) of 1 oz. weights in the back, then my pager, etc. etc. ;D All accompanied by laughter and "hey, cool" as we watched it run with the various ballasts. We had an issue with the coupling breaking once on the Dump Truck at our stop section (impact into foam), but on a "drag on the bottom" stop section like yours I would not expect any problems. If you have the 12", I could also send the "extend-o-sled" along. I think it is 10" long (don't recall the weight, but I don't recall going overboard with it). It's just a simple blue wood bar, only extra long. For a 3 lane track, the 2 Semi's and the "extend-o-sled" would be a good Exhibition race. Any other semi's out there? You guys are welcome to all my stuff, except maybe for the 1972 edition Bubba original. Couldn't really replace it if we lost it in the mail.

Give me a day or two and I will get some pictures. I haven't taken any of them yet that I can recall.
Note that the trailers are basically "stock length", and the cabs are a short wheelbase. I think the overall length is about 9-1/2".
The constraint I was working with was the length of our track behind the starting pin. About 1/2" hangs off the back, but doesn't catch to keep the combination from moving.
