PWDR "Old School" Division Rules
The "Old School" Division is a throwback to the original pinewood derby cars. Cars for this division must be built to resemble the old style pinewood derby cars. Approved kits for this division are the original BSA kits or the Beta-Craft Original Pine Car Kit (1956).
1. Car Specs:
A. Width - Not to exceed 2 3/4 inches
B. Length - The car body is not to exceed 7 inches
C. Weight - Not to exceed 5.0 ounces on a scale accurate to 1/10
D. Center Rail Width Clearance - No less than 1 3/4 inches.
E. Bottom Clearance - Car must be built to clear the track center rail. The height of the center rail on the track is 1/4" tall.
F. Height - Not to exceed 2 3/4 inches. The minimum height of the body is 1.25" (from the bottom of the body) in front and behind the driver cutout area.
G. Wheelbase - Axles/Axle Mounts must be located in the same position as supplied. It is your choice which is the front and back of the car.
2. No part of the car body (other than the front wheels) or attachments may protrude in front of the starting peg.
A. Body Designs - there has to be an "old school" look to the body with the driver seat area still there. No slab/wedge cars.
B. Adding "doors" to the driver area is allowed.
3. The following items are PROHIBITED:
A. Springs
B. Starting devices or propellants
C. Electronic or lighting devices that interfere with the race electronics.
D. Liquids, wet paint, oil, sticky substance, or powders of any kind (other than axle lubrication)
E. Glass or excessively fragile parts
F. Loose objects on car
G. Magnets
H. No part of any car, or attachment to any car, that is metal, pointed, sharp, and/or jagged may be capable of contacting any part of the track.
I. No additional material may be added to the front of the car in order to make it even with the front wheels
J. Bearings, bushings, washers, sleeves, hubcaps or inserts.
WHEELS:
4. Wheels for the "Old School" Division must conform to the following specifications:
A. Wheels provided in kit must be used.
B. The only treatment to the wheels is a light sanding/smoothing of the tread surface and axle bore polishing/treatment.Wheel bores may not be filled and re-drilled to achieve better axle fit.
C. There must be at least 4 wheels on the car, however, it is not required that all 4 wheels make contact with the track surface.
D. Each wheel must be mounted on an axle, on the outside of the car, in the vertical position. Each wheel must be attached directly to the car by an axle and spin freely. No part of the wheel may overlap the center guide rail by more than 1/8 inch. The two rear wheels and the two front wheels must be positioned directly across the body from each another. Staggered wheelbases are not allowed.
AXLES:
5. Axles for the "Old School" Division must conform to the following specifications:
A. The BLACK axles provided in the kit must be used.
B. Axles may be sanded, polished, grooved.
6. Over-application of lubricant which results in excessive shedding onto the track is not allowed. Approved lubricants include (but are not limited to) graphite, Teflon, Nyloil, and Krytox.
7. Cars may be reclassified or disqualified if they are determined by the race officials to not meet these requirements
