I have a question about how the races are run
Before the race I asked the pack leader how they did the races. She told me double elimination. Well, nobody was eliminated. Obviously they took an average. Is this called dynamic racing?
Is this the way it's done at the district level?

Check out this thread for an explanation of Dynamic. pwdracing.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tracks&action=display&thread=1922 What you will learn real quick is that every Pack, District, and Council run their races however they see fit. There is no set BSA way of running PWD races. By your previous posts, it seems information is hard to come by. Your PWD chairman should know where and when your district race is being held. He should be able to get the rules they are using and how they are running the race. If not, go to your Cubmaster. steepslope

Shovelhead...
You may ask if they could give you a print out of the race results....the report may tell what software they are running.
The software can judge it on about any criteria. Speed, points based on finsh order, what ever.
The Dynamic, schedules by the boys times from the first set of heats. So after everyone's first pass it was more evenly matched and the racing was very exciting. We actually had 3 or 4 ties in later heats. We still judged on average of 6 runs.
If we did not have a timer and used the points system or brackets my son would have been 2nd place. While my son had the faster car, the boy in third place by average time was undefeated. 6 runs, the last being against my son and he beat him by .003 so this boy had 6 first place finishes and my son had 5 first and 1 second place. While the boy in second had 4 first and 2 second place finishes. He lost to my son and the boy in third. The stats and charts and data availible on Grand Prix Race Manager are amazing!!!
For a well run race, they need to define the format before the race. I did this, since the timer was new to the pack, I told them 6 runs, best average times win. If I had not done this I probably would have had some heated discussions at the awards ceremony. But everyone knew the format and accepted it.
The software is awesome, but they need to read it and play with it a little. I had a couple of hicups running it for the first time, but the more I look at it the better I like it. I have been to a couple of Scout races that had problems, and they had to rerun many heats. I did not lose a single heat of data. (This was actually my biggest fear!!!)

Thanks Guys,
Saying info is hard to come by is a BIG understatement. After pack race, I asked the pack leader who to call to get rules for district. She said " you know, I'm not sure. I'll try to have a name by the next pack meeting".
Well, the next pack meeting is two weeks before the dist. race! I would kinda like to know the rules a little sooner than that. Well I got on-line and finally came up with a name of the activities director. Called her Monday. She finally calls me Wed. night and says she'll email the rules right out to me. Well still no rules. I hope everybody's scout experience is not like mine. If so, I don't see how they survive. I did ask what format would be used at dist. Got standard answer - " I don't know, should be on rules".
