Attached is a PDF of the proposed rules for the coming season. Any and all comments would be appreciated. Thanks! Just need to clarify. -This leaves it open to using other types of wood and essentially not having to use the supplied parts from the kit. Correct?-This obviously allows extended wheelbase and says nothing about using the slots or drilling new holes. Why is the drilling of new holes not addressed? What are the boys receiving in preparation for the derby?Wheels: . -The "new" wheels issue is not addressed. How is that being addressed? Both old and new are official BSA wheels.Good idea on eliminating lead as a weight. Any idea of a good substitute?

Great questions! Yes, other types of wood can be used. We don't want things like an aluminum frame. The "other types" are usually of two camps. The first is the ultra light like balsa which then needs to be reinforced/strengthened. The second is the really cool looking variety of cars made up of different species like Firenze's Pickup truck. Some tracks are rough and the really short wheelbase cars tend to "tumble" at the joints. . . hence the minimum wheelbase. The use of "Official BSA Wheels" was chosen to make clear that other 3rd party wheels will not be accepted without making a large issue of the fact that there are two tyoes of wheels. Those who take the effort to learn a little will quickly learn that there are the two types and they get a small "reward" for digging into it beyond the slip of paper in the box. The "How To Guide" goes into much greater detail of the effect of different parts and preparations. It is slated for release soon(in Warren time that is) The general concept on the rules is that if it is not addressed it is allowed, like the use of the new wheels, drilling axle holes, using paint, lego drivers, etc.. The idea "Up North" is that if the kids can do it, they should be allowed to do it. . . .so, if the DerbyWorx tools let a kid do something, we feel that it should be allowed. Hopefully they don't come out with a FischerPrice CNC machine! ;D

Thanks for posting the 2010 proposed rules. ;D When do you expect the final will be published? The Scouts were issued their car kits this week and no local rules were issued. Also what is the progress on the guide? We are anxious to see it! PS: The kits issued to the scouts this week have the new wheels in them! Peace & Fast Rolling!
