I guess I don't particularly have any strong preference either way on where the rules say the wheels have to go on Stockers or Modifieds, but to 3Cub's point I see a benefit to having rules that are at least somewhat common between the leagues so the as many people as possible can compete with their existing cars at a big race like Bluegrass. With this is mind, for Mods I'd say put the wheels wherever, but for Stockers I kind of like having to have all four fat wheels mounted somewhere on the side of the car in the vertical position. Wide wheels have to create a fair amount of wind resistance, and trying to come up with unique ways to overcome this (i.e. by putting two wheels close together as I've seen some do) for me is half the fun of designing a car. But I'm fine with whatever seems to be the consensus... and I'll pay close attention to the rules this time! Steve B.

I voted to eliminate the 4th wheel completely. Although I run all 4 wheels in normal locations, I have a couple of mods that run well with the 4th wheel tucked underneath the car. I think that it all comes down to the way that you set your car up. Most of all, I think that the 4th wheel has little to do with a car. Im fine with any rule in any class, but wanted to chime in. This is a great way to make rule changes. Ask the guys that race here what theyre wanting. Good job PWD.

I say lets give the builders the option to get rid of the 4th wheel altogether in every division outside of the Pure Stock, Limited & Hot Rod 66. Leo I completely agree with this statement from Leo.

This way the rule would not inhibit the builder's creativity on his/her builds.

There was some concern expressed by several racers regarding the Pure Stock Class not having a set measurement for the location of the wheelbase and axle hole/slot location. Due to this reason, we have added specific wording on the subject. Please take a minute to look it over.
Thank you

The pole won't be up much longer. If you haven't voted, better do it now, or forever hold your peace. Steve H.

Thank you to all who voted and voiced their opinions. The 4 wheel requirement will be dropped in Stock, Modified, Pro-Stock and Pro-Modified for the 2009 Season. Limited, Pure Stock and Hot Rod 66 will still require 4 wheels. This should conclude all the changes for the 2009 Season. Thank you to all the racers for your feedback and help with the rule changes and additions for 2009.

Hey Warren,
Got to playing around today with one of my cars and converted it to bearings!
I know that's not legal till next year but would like to send it in for November.
Will you run it for me?
Curious to see how it will run.
Scott

I just started reading all of this on the rules to change again... this is the second year that the rules have changed after a big race... they changed after the 2007 lima land open... and now after the 2008 blus grass nationals... I was just wondering why do the rules keep changing... Thank you Glenn

I would expect that the rules will keep getting tuned/tweaked each year.
The calendar dictates the schedule, not other live events. We try to have the next year's rules out in the October/November timeframe so that builders can use them to build new cars if they are planning on making new ones.
Although I have to admit that I learn lots at the live events about what builders are doing/wanting to do. We try to bring what we learn into the rules to better reflect the desires of the builders and the products/practices being used.
We have added a new division, Pure Stock, for those who want to have a division that is as close to out of the box as possible. The rules for the Novice division are staying the same. The question is if we will have very many racers in that division in 2009. We usually get several during the "Cub Scout Season" of January through April and very few towards the end of the year.

I would expect that the rules will keep getting tuned/tweaked each year. Hey Glenn, First, both PDDR and PWDR made significant rule changes for 2008 following the 2007 Lima race for the same reasons -- namely because that is what the members of each league wanted. Second, the 2009 PWDR rule changes have nothing to do with the BGN, Lima or any other race. Several months before the start of each new racing season (i.e., January 1st of each year) the PWDR rules committee meets and considers the suggestions and requests for rule changes we received over the prior many months from PWDR members. The committee adopts the changes we all agree have merit, and when we are not sure we take a poll (sometimes a formal poll, sometimes informal) to see how our member feel. To provide our members with adequate notice of rule changes before the start of any new season, this review process must occur several months before the end of each year, which means that it must take place around September or October. With all due respect, you got it backward -- the rules changes didn't come as a result of the BGN, the BGN happened to take place just before the rules committee undertook the annual review process. Third, at PWDR we make rule changes in order to make the rules more clear, more fair, and above all to make this league more of what the members want it to be, and for NO other reasons. Like Warren said, we will continue to tweak and tune, write and re-write rules, in order to accomplish these goals to the best of our abilities. Perhaps some day PWDR will have perfect rules that all our members agree are ideal. Until then we will continue to consider the input of our members and adopt changes as necessary to make PWDR a more fun and more fair place to race. ProQuest
