Wow,
Once again ProQuest raises the bar, this time in the Pure Stock Division. Great Job Steve! It is scary to think what you could do if you had a track to test on.

I echo Leo's comments. ProQuest is the Man!!! Last year, a case could have been made in the "fat wheeled world" that it would be appropriate to put an asterisk next to ProQuest's "Limited" and "Stock" times/records, because his cars run solid rear axles (which is certainly legal/within the rules, but doesn't conform to the "purist" concept of running nail type axles on a Cub Scout type PWD car). To be completely honest, I always somewhat rationalized/discredited Wasabi's times because of the advantages offered by running a solid axle (while my cars run the harder-to-align nail type axles). In fact I had built a prototype Limited car to start experimenting with solid axles, figuring "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em (since my Sushi car just couldn't quite catch Wasabi). So when PWDR announced the "Pure Stock" class, I was excited that there was going to be a "Cub Scout legal" type class (other than allowing aftermarket axles). I figured it would finally be time for ProQuest to prove his mettle... and I have to admit that in the back of my mind I questioned whether or not Steve would be up to the challenge. Well... the results are in! Steve's/Mooberg's performance on Saturday was one of the most impressive demonstrations I have ever seen in my limited time in the Pinewood Derby world (along with the Jewkes domination of the Bluegrass race last year). I mean... when I read the times, I thought it had to be a typo! I then checked to see if the track had changed/if other classes had incredibly fast times... but known cars in other classes ran times comparable to those run in December. Bottom line? Steve (ProQuest) is one HECK of a Pinewood builder no matter the car type/rules/limitations/whatever. The man is simply really, really talented! As I said above... ProQuest is the MAN! Steve, I salute your accomplishment, and very much look forward to trying to figure out how on earth to catch up to you in the future!!! Congratulations my friend! Steve B.

Very well put Steve. I did not have a car entered this month but checked in during the conference (actually i was there the entire day) but when the pure stock class ran and Proquest had his first pass and i saw the time he posted i think my post on the conference was "is that real?" at first i thought it was a computer glitch. After this month, there is no doubt that Steve (proquest) sits at the top rung of the pinewood derby ladder. Congrats Steve!

Leo, Steve B., docb, Other than "Thank you for the kind words regarding Mooberg," I really don't know what to say -- I am as surprised as anyone at how fast it ran last weekend. It would be silly for me to deny that my cars are running well at this time, so I won't. But much of the credit goes to other builders on this board (including you three and some others) who have freely shared much of their knowledge and experiences. And although my cars are at the top of their classes for now, one thing my martial arts training taught me is that no matter how big and bad you think you might be, there is always someone out there who is bigger and "badder." So, I know my success won't last forever, but I'll enjoy it while it does. Just don't forget me when my cars are staring at the tail lights of other cars as they cross the finish line. Thanks again, Steve H.
