I'd like to say hi to everybody and thank you for the warm welcome. The grandson and I are going to try to make the January race, we live about 3 hrs away and I also have a son that lives in Columbus. If we get the cars done we will see you then. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Hey Guys and Girls,
I just joined to check out all of the cool cars for ideas for next years Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race. Although, I'm close enough to make it to the PWD races, but I'm sure the 7 year old's car won't be competitive.

Just remember, we ALL started there at one point in time or another.
Feel free to ask questions to get that car up to speed and be comfortable with joining in on the fun.

Hello Everyone... A couple weeks ago my grandson's pack had their PWD. My daughter had retrieved my vintage car when she was helping to clean out my mother's house. In 1958 our pack didn't have a track yet, so our cars were built only as craft projects. We worked on them at den meetings with no help from parents... just a den mother to make sure we didn't whittle off the end of our thumb. ;D So my daughter suggested I enter the car... a few adults had entered their vintage cars last year. After nearly 54 years my car made it's first runs down a track. Now the car had NO prep... I hadn't even laid eyes on it until I met them in the church parking lot, so for me it wasn't about winning... just being there to see my grandson race his car, and finally see mine make it down the track. Never the less, the bug has bitten. (I'm here, right?) I have no plans to reshape the car. After all I carved it when I was eight... but I will smooth it a bit, throw some new paint on it (vintage appropriate) and TUNE IT UP for next year... it WILL be competitive! Now I don't have lot's of money to spend, but I can't wait a full year to race again... so in the meantime I plan to throw together something I can proxy race with y'all a few times, plus be legal to race in the local pack's adult division next year as well. I'm sure I'll have questions and I'll do my best to see if they've already been asked and answered... but if I ask something redundant I'm happy to follow a link to an earlier thread. Happy Motoring, Glenn (turnleft27)

Thanks for the welcome guys! I'll post a photo as soon as I'm able... To other place, I understand and appreciate your advice. There is a bit more to the story than I took time to tell above, and I think once you see the photo, you'll understand why I want to do a "restore & tune"... It's not exactly in "as originally built" condition. You'll see what I mean so I won't try to explain, at least until after you've seen the photo. Meanwhile, that Old Skol pure stocker is pretty slick lookin... I see PWDR has an Old School division using the original kits and there are some nice looking cars for that div. in the league too. Of course they're much nicer than anything we would have built back in the day... more what I would call a Legacy car than Vintage... but those appeal too and I need to think about putting one of those in the build que, maybe right behind the Pure Stocker I plan to build for proxy racing. Happy Motoring, Glenn (turnleft27)

When I arrived at my grandson Brody's PWD I had no idea cars were supposed to have names. My first job ever was at a regional chain of fast-food drive-ins called Mr. Quick, that's what my daughter recommended for a name... So here is Mr. Quick, just as it cam out of my mother's basement. Built when I was eight, it had to survive another 8 years until I could play with real cars. To be honest, I don't remember painting the white over the original blue, or the silver on the wheels, or the "enhanced aerodynamic" carving. ;D I think anyone can see why Mr. Quick could use some restoration & tuning. Plenty of room in that pine block to bury the needed tungsten with no outward trace. The wheels are already cleaned up and look brand new. Some fresh white paint with a bit of red & blue trim, and hopefully it will look nearly original. Don't anyone hold their breath, but I will post a couple of "after" pics when I get it done. Hello to all! Helping my son with our 1st derby car. I still have the one I built with my Dad 40 years ago! My 1st car was pretty slow but won a design award...the trophy is next to the car. I hope my son and I can improve on the speed! Zackracing

Just wanted to say hi to the Board. I've had the pleasure of getting to know 5KidsRacin over the past few years and he has been the greatest PWD mentor EVER. I'm just a Dad looking for Speed Tips... ohhhh and a used BestTrak if anyone knows of one.
