At the race today we saw a car that made us sad, real sad. As most of you know Northern Star Council doesn't allow lightened wheels, no material removed from the inside of the wheel. We saw a car with 1g wheels and what appeared to be stainless or titanium axles. The part that was sad was the lube. It had LOTS of our favorite lube, White Teflon with Cling. We didn't flag it as being disqualified since it wasn't going to be in the top of the pack. We let them race. The car was about 20th place out of 65 cars. I didn't find the parents to discuss the issue since they aren't in the traditional top 3 of each rank. Hopefully they fix the wheels if they decide to come to the council race since it is open to any with a fast car.

Definitely sad that the dad would put his kid in that spot and try to slip one pass the inspectors. But I think it was a good choice not to disqualify the car, especially it being obvious that it couldn't win. When I do inspections at our pack races, if it's obvious the car has no chance to win, I will let it slide too. But cars that look like they could be fast, it's by the book for those cars. This year we had one car at pack where the dad thought the wheelbase maximum was 4". They built the car with a 3-3/4" wheelbase lol. We let it slide, but warned them if they placed in the top 3 and advanced to district (not a chance of that happening), the district inspectors would not be as lenient.

Yeah, Wally and DJ are very experienced at Pack inspections and what to caution about for the District or Council races.
