Quick background:
We don't hold District races, we go straight from Pack to Council.
Council races are run in 10 categories on 10 separate tracks, Winners and Runners-Up from each grade 1st through 5th.
Our Council is composed of 5 Districts comprising about 140 Packs total, approx. 1300 boys participate in the Council races.
One Large District (ours) runs in a semi-final bracket Saturday morning, 2 others race together Saturday afternoon, 2 final Districts race together Sunday early afternoon.
Winners of the Sat AM, Sat PM, and Sun semi-final brackets participate in the finals which are held immediately after the Sun semi-final bracket.
All that being said, on to the results:
My 2 boys - ended up 2nd place in the Winner Bracket and 1st place in the Runner Up Bracket for their age group. The 2nd boy was in the Runner Up Bracket, having lost to his brother at the Pack level.
My "other" boys i.e. the boys from our Pack - of the 10 boys from our large District (roughly 50 Packs) that made it to the finals, 6 were from our little Pack. When they were introducing the finalists over the loudspeakers and our Pack number & name came up the 2nd time, then 3rd, then 4th, 5th and 6th with my boys coming last and sharing the same last name, the crowd was obviously starting to take note and I'm not sure how to describe my reaction other than to say it was both rewarding and a little embarrassing at the same time.
In the end, our "band of 6" walked off with 3 first places, 2 seconds, and a third.
Guess those PWD workshops paid off
Bubba
p.s. Of course you realize the workshops (had they even occurred) would have been far less effective if I hadn't learned so much from the guys on this board and others over the last couple of years. A hearty THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU from me and all of "my boys" for everything we have learned from you.
