I've trolled various pinewood derby sites off and on for the last few years, but am finally thinking of starting to race (via proxy).
We've always done well in Jr.'s scout races, and I've always enjoyed the build process with Jr. I recognize the PWD league is at another whole level so I wanted some feedback as to where a new racer should start?
I checked the various rules for the different classes, and it really looks like I should start in the completely stock class. I have no access to a track and we do all of our tuning on the dining table.
I see the stock class calls for having all of the lettering and at least visible tread beads on the wheels. Do people still run something like the pro inertia derby worx wheels in this class as well?
TIA for any input or advice.

Hi 4wheeldrift! The pure stock class does not allow material to be removed from the inside of the wheel and the minimum outside diameter is 1.170".
The DW Pro Inertia Wheels have material removed from the outside and inside of the wheels and would not be allowed to run in the Pure Stock Class. The Pro Inertia Wheels weigh 1.5 grams/each.
In short, the Pro Inertia wheels will not comply to the Pure Stock Rules. Consquently, you will have to go with a more conservatively designed BSA Wheel.
It would be great to have you race with us! Let us know if you need more information and we will be glad to help! Murph

Thanks Murph, I'll look more closely at the rules next time.
