I just wanted to say hello and share a picture of the car I'll be entering in next month's race. This will be my first entry in an adult pinewood derby league. I guess a Mills Craft car is an unusual way to start, but I had fun putting it together. Attachments:

Looking forward to seeing it on the track. The Mills-Craft class is a lot of fun. The build is different then the norm for league racing, but it is a fun build for sure.

Since everyone is so friendly, I guess I'll say a little bit more about myself. My name is Daryl and I work at the public library in Conyers, Georgia, which is east of Atlanta. In addition to racing little wooden cars, I also play a few musical instruments. I play tuba every week in my church orchestra and my wife plays clarinet. I also like to play bass guitar and mountain dulcimer. I have two sons who participate in AWANA. My oldest son came in last place at his first AWANA race a few years ago. We worked on the car together and I didn't know at all what I was doing, so the wheels almost didn't even roll. He got third place the next year, which was a huge improvement, and he was very happy about that. The year after that I started reading the books that are available on the subject and some things online and he got a solid first place by about three car lengths. While I gave him lots of guidance, he did a lot more work himself on the last car I mentioned, which made him feel quite proud. All of the dads were asking me how I did it and I enjoyed telling them how much work my son did on that car. That's what got me interested in league racing. I finally gave it a try a couple of months ago. Attachments:

Nice post Daryl. You are not as I pictured you. I love to listen to dulcimer music! Are you pretty good at it? Nice to hear your son has an interest in PWD racing. Good hobby to enjoy together. :)

Welcome Daryl, I didn't know what I was doing either (still questionabe if I do now) but you will find all sorts of help and knowledge here. Ask a question and you will get an answer. Glad you are here.

Daryl,
I also like hearing how people got started. While I no longer play any instruments, Sky Racing and my father both play percussion. My father is very active in his church playing.
While we league race here, there is a lot of talent here with Awana cars. Ninjarabbi I believe has been the Ohio State Champion for the last year or two (he would never brag about it, so I will for him). I believe MWD has some experience with the Awana cars too. I have done some wheels and axles for awana cars in the past too.
