Sorry it took me a extra day, but here are some pictures of the carbon cover plate in red that I painted. The clear is not buffed out yet. This is a example of how you could finish one of these plates.

Rich,
Thank you! I think everyone knows that I like painting flames on everything so this car should be no different. I tried to mix up the flames a little and do flames within flames. It doesn't so up in the picture but it almost has a 3d appearance.

Steve, I recieved the plates and they look great. I have a question though. Do you sand the edges flush after gluing them to the car with standard sand paper?

Greg,
I will say how I did it but I am sure there are several ways to do it. I used 5 minuÞe epoxy and glued the carbon plate to the frame. I then sanded the cover plate to size. I used 100 grit to start and got it to size. I then used finer grits and smoothed it out. I roughed up the surface of the cover plate with 600 grit and then cleared it. I then again sanded the cover plate with finer grits and polished the sides and top.

I didn't buy my carbon fiber from evolution because I didn't see this thread before I bought mine -- wish I had as I would have saved money! It is pretty rigid, but can be bent slightly. If you have a scroll saw, you can cut it with a very fine tooth blade. Keep the teeth pointed down and cut with the clear side up. Here it is: I just might have to buy some of the red and blue for next season!

I don't know why none of the big box retail stores don't carry it. It is kind of hard to find the very thin carbon fiber and even harder to find it in a color.
These are great for making very custom looking cars. I have finished a couple more, but have not taken pictures of them yet.

Brian, I would have to check, but I believe they were the first place I tried to order from. After placing my order I received a call from them telling me they no longer carry color panels that thin. If someone does find a place that has it in stock and orders green or orange I will buy a panel or two as Sky wanted to try those colors.
