Hey, ya'll... I have good news! Our new pack (we combined packs in September) is very enthusiastic about the PWD. Since there were only 8 in thier pack, they did not do much with the derby. But, now we are adding our 12 boys, and we picked up three new boys during recruitment, so we should have a pretty good group for our pack PWD, which is scheduled for January 16th. The good news is that we are having TWO PWD workshops!
The first workshop is December 12th. They are going to help the boys cut out their cars, and I am being given an hour or so to go over speed tips! The second workshop is going to be January 10th-- a week before the derby. This will be for tuning the cars and doing final prep stuff. I will also be given time to work on speed during this workshop.
My questions is.... what is essential to cover during the first work shop? I know: weight placement, alignment, wheel and axle prep. Is there anything that is really important to cover that HAS to be discussed before the cars are built?
For the second workshop, should I go prepared with tools to help the boys make adjustments? How do you "help" with out taking over and doing it for them? How much is too much? There won't really be enough time to teach the boys how to use the tools. But, I do not want to take over. Maybe I should go on a case-by-case basis? Evaluate each boy and see how much they can do for themselves???
This will be my first workshop and I want it to go as smoothly as possible and to help as much as possible with out taking over the boys' cars. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks!
Teresa
