To my fellow Pineheads: I can see from pictures that a lot of people use the standard axles in this class, especially on the back of the car. I have proven to myself that needles are faster between two cars given that everything else is equal so, I wonder why I don't see more needles on the BACK of your cars. Are a lot of you guys finding that the extra 1 oz focused in the back is too heavy for needles and doesn't perform as well as standard axles or what? Thanks, HDR

HDR,
I agree with you, I believe the needles are faster too. I don't think the extra 1 oz in back makes that much difference on the needles.
I think that there is a large percentage of the builders who prefer to use the regular axles, because that is what they will be using in BSA, AWANA's etc..
That's the reason why Limited and Rookie Stock are so popular.
I also think you will see the new Modified and Stock classes grow rapidly, and attract a lot of new racers.
Even though I have used needles in all my cars for close to 1 1/2 years, I would be the first to admit that they are certainly pushing the rules to the limit.
Phil

Thanks for the input Phil, I was also wondering if there are WIRL points awarded for this class? This is because WIRL doesn't run a HR66 class directly so do they even recognize this class being held at PWDRacing? Barry

Barry No, not that I am aware of. PWD Racing is not directly associated with WIRL so I don't think that they would. You could always check with WIRL though. Scott BTW - Dune Buggy uses big axles -just for the record. I'm not sure if I will convert it to needles or not.

Hi HDR, I'm with Phil on this one. If racing in a class that allows needles, I would think needles are the way to go. Having said that, the track record is held by Rascal with what looks like bigs on the back. I have bigs on Parts Runner because they were already on it and I just wanted to get in the mix until I built a car specific to HR66 rules. A new HR66 I'm working on will be making its debut in July with needles and have no idea what it's going to do. The Grump runs very fast, stable & consistent on needles so I don't think +1oz makes a difference at all.

Thanks Warthog, I was just kidding, there shouldn't be any harm in mentioning other organizations or people as long as your not being derogatory about them. However, I know of people who seem to have a true hatred for others and the organizations they identify with. It's kinda sad isn't it?

Try this link on the WIRL website: It shows the first 7 cars that some of us built for this class back in December 06. wirlracing.com/Dec06results.shtmlAnd these are the race videos from those first seven cars. www.wirlracing.org/video/Dec06/
