Anyone out there working on some new cars for the 2009 season ? I just finished clear coating 3 new cars today. I hope you like them !! If anyone else out there is working on some new projects, lets see them !! Holy metal flake, Batman! That blue/purple flamer looks incredible! (well, they all do, but especially that one) What color(s) did you use for the flames on that one? My Tiger Cub wants a black car with color shifting flames, and that one really caught his eye. I'm hoping to add pics of my boys' cars in a month or so. Tiger: black w/ flames Webelo: Red metal flake over black Bear: Kandy Green Snakeskin!

Roosclan, Welcome to the PWDR forum !! Thanks for the compliments on the cars. The black car with "blue" flames is actually a black car with purple flames !! For some reason that color of purple shows up on my camera as blue every time I use it ?? It's Fluorescent Purple by FASCOLOR. It's a very nice color. The flames on the car were painted by starting with a metallic silver base (very light) and then spraying the purple over top it (again very light), last I took opaque white and very lightly shaded the flames with it by spraying it on the stencil in the areas you want to add highlights. When you do that enough over spray will land on the flames to give it a nice look. The silver and white are the CREATEX brand paints.
Have fun with the boys Scout cars and make sure you post some pictures !! We started our Scout cars this past weekend. Their race isn't until March, but there's nothing wrong with getting a head start ;D !!

Wow, these are some impressive cars!!! When Ethan gets his car done I will be sure to post a pic. It won't look like any of these, though! I have been playing with my airbrush and am sort of getting the hang of it. But, Ethan won't let me touch his paint. Maybe I will do a car of my own!

Great to have you aboard ScoutMom, can't wait to see pics of your son's cars. OK Lucky, you asked what we've been up to so here it is. We have had two Scout workshops so far with 3 more to go and then a whole week of test and tune then the race. In between workshops the boys and wife and I got started on some new cars. Here is what we have so far: This is CSR Racing's scout car for 2009. He decided he wanted a dual purpose car for this years race so that if got hungry after it ran, he could use it for a snack. Meet The Cruncher: This is TJR Racing's scout car for the year. He did most of the work including the stencil. He hasn't come up with a name yet: And this is BeakerGirl's RA car for this year. While she wasn't looking, I put the Pokemon "RAT" tattoo on it because she so dearly loves little small furry rodents. She didn't think it was very funny but I did. Still waiting on axles for my new Extreme Pro Mod. Got the wheels prepped and Bearings showed up yesterday. Put one wheel together and I believe I'm on to something. Still trying to figure this airbrush out so the first paint job may not be that great. I believe I will name it SR71 because it is sleek like the plane. Pics coming soon! CYA Scott Beakerboys

Me and the boys had some time this evening to sit down and finally get some painting done on their Scout cars. The flamed one is done except for clear coating. The other one is almost done. We have a "Chewbacca" decal coming for it thanks to Dapine Racing !! Thanks again Dwayne !! After the decal and clear coat, the cars will be ready for their new colored wheels and then the test track !! I finally got the wheels on my other new cars...

::)DAAAAAANG Bob, You gotta stop doing this! You make me look like a 1st grader with a paint brush and water colors. Man, That is incredible work. I'm really diggin' the white cars. If your feeling guilty about making me look so bad, I'll send you one of my bodies and let you unleash some "Bob" on it. It will probably make you feel better. ;D Keep up the good work! $

I wish I could find that amount of time lately. I have been helping kids with their cars for the up coming derby. It is this Sat., I am hoping Steven takes the overall for the first time. It is looking promising. I have not even worked on my own car and I know that the guys are gunning for me again this year as I have won the adult class every year. I am hoping with all I have learned this year that I can stay way ahead of the guys.
All this has been hard on me as I have been helping the kids and their dads get more speed from their cars, but at the same time I want me and Steven to win. I have not held back any of the little things I have learned, I hope that does not hurt Steven's chances of winning. It would be ashame as he truley built his own car and it is fast. I know there will be fathers that build their sons cars. Oh I just wish this weekend will come and hte waiting will be over.

Found a little time tonight to get the graphics airbrushed on my new Limited. If we can get a few warm days here soon, I just might be able to get all our cars cleared ?? Lucky 13

Ya'll are all so talented! These cars looks like they should be hanging in an art gallery somewhere! Too pretty to touch. The skull is fabulous. Lucky, is that gold metal flake paint that you used on the flame part? I love that paint. My son's car is green and he wants to paint gold flames on it. Would love to use that color (would love for YOU to paint them on, actually.... but we can't do that! We'll have to settle for the name of the paint color. LOL!). Keep up the good work all of you guys! You all are a real inspiration! The candy bar is a super neat idea-- really fun! That car should definitely win for the most creative (I have a hunch that it is FAST, too!).

They make painting the flame jobs easy to do! Now the highlights and multiple colors like Lucky does are just pure art! Steve 3CubDad

I bought a four pack of stencils from Derby Doc and let my son pick which one he wants to use. We got the stencil-- just need to decide on the colors. Do you think that we can make it look good with out using an airbrush? (Mine is not working right now). Can we make it look good using paint brushes?
Thanks!

Scoutmom,
The colors on the car are orange pearl, silver pearl and opaque black from CREATEX over a white base coat of Krylon. Once the clear is applied the colors will "pop" more. I used 4 stencils to create this car. The Derbydoc stencil are great and very easy to use.
Yes, you can use the stencils and a paint brush to create nice flames. Just remember "less is best". Don't put the paint on thick, just a light coat.

Lucky: Thanks for the info! I am glad that we have a shot at decent looking flames with out an airbrush. Unfortunately, my son is NOT good at going "light" on the paint, but I will try to coach him through it. Thanks for the info on what paints you used-- that was very informative.
